Here are some thoughts, all of which could be wrong as all Newells are different.
When I would remove that valence I would just bring the slide in about half way. Then, as Richard said, push up on each end until it was free. No fasteners by the time I had my coach in my possession.
I think then you could move it outward letting you get closer to the pins. But, and I hope I am wrong, I think it will still spew fluid even when unplugged. Russ
