Here is a picture of my 4 year old AGM battery.....i had three bulged and two split like the one in the picture. When I put them in (without a temp probe) I set the charge parameters on my (Xantrex) Link 2000 to AGM and the FUNCTION "F14" OFF i.e. to the the "default" setting. The default sets the voltages of the charge at the 70 degree voltage setting. My battery compartment would easily reach 100 degrees in the garage. Thus my charging voltages were routinely .3 volt too high.....reference the chart below. With a temp sensor installed and FUNCTION "F14" turn ON it allows the temp sensor to adjust the charging voltages. On the flip side too cold you can see the voltages would be too low to effectifly charge your batteries to full capacity. Certainly would not hurt the situation any!
