I am gonna take a shot in the dark. Note that it’s been a long time since I looked at it on 653 But here goes…
The front surround sound speakers were connected to the AV receiver located in console above driver. AND the speakers were connected to the radio in the dash. There was a rigged up situation where the relays figured out the AV receiver was turned on and the speakers connected to it. But when the AV receiver was turned off…the speakers were connected to the radio.
I suspect that this relay was somehow associated with this speaker setup. On 653 the system was unreliable…I forget what the exact symptom was…but it was not a positive.
. In the end, I installed dedicated speakers to the dash radio and bypassed the relay situation in the panel above the drivers window.
Hope this helps (or at least triggers someone’s memory about the exact purpose).
