I'm almost certain the problem is that the hatch's servo motor is sticking. When it does, the hatch stays open which keeps the fan on. Same can happen in the closed position, with the hatch not opening and, hence, the fan never coming on.
Happens all the time with one of ours and it's a VERY simple "fix".
While, yes, you can replace that servo motor, I simply give the knob a gentle twist to help it get moving.
Last trip, I took the cover off, gave it a good blow out, and sprayed some dry silicone in there and hoping that'll help.
