So the buffer handles high idle and switches the jake brakes? What else does the buffer do? Regular idle is on the throtle side right?
So it’s three things, buffer screw, fast idle and jake brake switch all in one. That’s if you have all those. The buffer screw is used to take out any loping of the engine at idle, I have found that as long as you have decent injectors and have run the rack the buffer adjustment does not do much.
Engine idle is adjusted by the screw under a cover on the back of the governor, meaning toward the front of the coach. This adjusts the no-load rpm and idle.
