was installed over one of my fantastic fans.  It works exceptionally well.  Mine have rain sensors, but this makes the sensors redundant.

Those are ok, but they are usually not tall enough for the electric fans to open all the way. Not to mention then they are sticking up higher all the time, mainly a visual issue not a height issue. The new fans I am looking at do not require you to have the lid up to vent, they have a flap designed into them so they can vent even when the lid is down.
