I removed it, undercoating and rust proofing the compartment bay, put a stainless sheet on the floor of the bay.
Put the unit itself on saw horses. It just got a new board at newell but the outside fan motor crapped out. I’m replacing both fan motors, and all of the capacitors.
I’ll add some pictures with where I’m at now and as progress goes.

Nice work Dennis! You will be happy when you are putting it back in! Yours is looking pretty dirty and crusty, thankfully mine were fairly clean.
I thought about doing this to mine while I had them out but they really looked in great shape so I decided to risk it. So far so good.
