Getting ready to drive down from Alaska to spend 6 months down at Shaw AFB- so I was on my roof doing some preventive maintenence and cleaning on my rooftop air conditioners when I noticed the real slide seal was spliting down the seam on a 2 foot section on top of the slide. It still holds air but is bubbling out of its outter casing. I know I am lucky that its the rear slide so I can over retract the slide in the coach to replace the seal. I have ordered the required splice kit and seal from Newell today - about $1600 minus shipping to Alaska and it should be here within a week. I am pretty familiar with bypassing the the limit switches on the rear slide and have already bypassed the slide pins due to previous hydraulic leaks. I have been reading and will follow the procedures from others who have preformed this repair in the past seems to be about a 2 day job. Any pieces of advice from the gurus- I would love to hear them! The only major concern I have is that it seems the seal didnt last very long - previous owner had it done at Organ Motorcoach in 2016, however I belive it was not done correctly since it had a good 6 inch gap on the bottom of the slide where it looks as though they cut the seal too short but installed it anyway allowing air and water to enter if I didnt manually seal the gap everytime. I just don't want to perform this repair again in just 10 years if I can prevent it. I was pressuring it at 25 psi - too high maybe?
