Crack the banjo fitting with the pump running.
Assuming you get enough fuel to make a mess, try again cranking while holding the solenoid.
Hot wired the pump. I am getting steady fuel out of the banjo fitting. I tried getting fuel from the injectors. Not much luck there. Still no start with the pump hot wired. Fuel solenoid seems to be clicking and moving back and forth on its own.

Yeah it takes some time to purge the lines of air now you have this embedded in your memory. Congrats!

I seem to keep gettin air in the fuel system. I have to bleed and re bleed to get this to run. I’ve ordered some new filters, maybe it’s sucking air around the filter gasket?? Does anyone have a common place where air may be gettin in that I could check?? Losing my mind over here

I would start at the tank checking for restrictions . A restricted fuel line can cause the pump to suck air in or at least limit engine RPM. Recheck lift pump and connections. Sometimes fittings won’t leak fuel but will let air in.
I would plumb in a rubber hose to the lift pump inlet and suck fuel from a fuel can to rule out tank and fuel line restrictions.

Is the air problem while it's running? does it sputter and stall
Or is the air problem only after it sits for a while?
The answer could point in different directions.
If the problem is continuous, then gaskets on filters, the priming pump o rings, or worse case cracks in the incoming fuel line from the tank.
If the problem is only after it sits, you might replace the fuel pump. I think, but not certain, there is a check valve in the pump to prevent the fuel from siphoning back into the tank. First order would be to disconnect incoming line to fuel pump (lift pump, don't know why it's a different name on diesels) to see if the line into the lift pump is full or empty.

The air is a problem after it sits for a while. Maybe a week or so. Seems worse in cold weather vs hot. I'll look into this pump, filters. I think I have a spare pump. I'll see if that line is full or empty when I remove it.

when i first got my 02 the genny would run fine sitting in the driveway and as soon as i started driving it, the genny would die.
it ended up being the fuel pump. it had a check valve in it that was malfunctioning.
