Right Coolant for my 2001 Newell
#1

Hello,
would love to find out about the right coolant used in Newell ( name , brand etc)

I have plastic tube in the back by the recovery tank and its shows low level !

That plastic tube is broken at the top , so i just picked up very hard plastic hose in same diameter and slipped in to rubber hose.
Also , wanted to find out if that tube is top off at the top ? since mine is broken ( last 2' at the top ) I have no knowlage if should be closed or ope?

Thanks.

Les,
I use Detroit Diesel Super Cool-DD#23512138. That part number is for the concentrate. They also have pre-mix. Last time I paid $9.01 per gallon. It is pink. I purchase it at my local Freightliner dealer.

My tube has a cap on it, but I would think that is only to keep dirt out.

les, you should have a cap on it. it is just a plastic cap of any kind. no pressure on it.

like steve said it is just to keep dirt out.

those tanks are actually sod be a fellow out of his house in tempe arizona. he has sold to newell for a long time. i went to his house and got some parts for mine along with an entire tank for richard.

When I replaced my water pump in Tyler, TX back in February I went to the local Stewart and Stevenson and bought the Super Cool concentrate for $10.00/ gallon, so Tom's source is a little better price wise. The coolant cost more (23 gallons @ $10 per) than the pump did....$89.00 on Ebay. I mixed it 50/50 with distilled water. My engine runs a little cooler than it did before.

Les,
The NAPA #4074 is the coolant filter, not the coolant.

I have been changing my coolant every 4 years. And I use DD Super Cool (pink stuff) mixed with distilled water.

How often do you change your coolant?
