Mid entry door not opening with button
#1

Hi guys, we have been experiencing this more and more often, time to fix. Does anyone know where we can get the door open and door lock mechanisms mounted on the wall behind the control board as you enter the coach? As long as someone's on the inside we remove the panel, reach in and flip the left rocker one position. The right rocker locks and unlocks the door, that does not work either. So we would like to replace both but not sure where to get them. Pic attached!

Thanks, as always!

Hi guys - no news from the Gurus, so time to reach out to Newell.

Of course they don't make these any longer - they proposed one of two options: 1) relay from Amazon, some wiring changes or 2) new board from Newell, more wiring changes than the relay from Amazon. I have asked for the updated wiring diagrams/changes for both options and will post what I receive here. At

At least getting into the coach is easy - but we still have to flip the relay. It is failing so often now that I'm thinking about installing tiny hinges at the bottom of the control panel.

Do you by chance think it could be the micro switch that's failing. Instead of the relay?
My doors are manual so I don't have that set up but I sure have a couple failed micro switches.
Quick test would be to see if you have the same micro switches on something like a closet door to turn the lights on and off. Swap it out as a test and it would tell you pretty quickly.

Dave, I have sprayed a light cleaner on those very switches and followed with a light lubricant which freed them up for quite a while.  That may work for you!

Hi guys, appreciate both suggestions!

I have not tried the micro switch, I do believe that is the problem rather than the relay. I've been hesitant to drill out the switch without a replacement handy (it's riveted to the relay.) I find that if I have spares before I start I won't need any of them, if I do not I'll need everything. Just the way the universe works.

I have sprayed with silicon lube, it did help for a few hours. It's failing multiple times per day. But I have not sprayed the switch with electrical contact cleaner, I will try that next and see if it helps. What can it hurt, right?

I have not been able to get hold of the key guy at Newell with the answers to what is required when replacing with Amazon relay (scary Chinese part) or the Newell board (possible overcomplication?) they keep telling me to call back and at some point I'll get him - apparently he spends all day on the phone.

Tony is your coach identical to ours? It seems we both have chassis #646 ... or were you the previous owner of this wonderful beast?

I'm the previous owner.  I've tried to clean up my signature several times, but may have to have Tom do that.

Cleaning contacts on a micro switch is for the most part futile.  There's just no way to get contact cleaner onto the contacts.  You definitely do not want silicone on the contacts.  They are cheap and readily available at Newark, DigiKey, Mouser etc..  FWIW,  on many airplane radio transmit buttons there are two microswitches stacked on each other, wired in parallel to insure radio communications when one micro switch fails.  When they fail it is commonly intermittent and difficult to pinpoint.  When it happens I automatically buy two and replace both, you'll go crazy trying to troubleshoot.

I would get 2 microswitches, drill the old ones out and use a small screw to reassemble, you shouldn't need rivets.  Amperage and the arm length are about all you have to consider.
