New Drive Axle Bags from Newell
#1

Didn’t see where this was addressed directly, but could’ve missed it. Ordered new rear bags, passenger side for my 99. My old bags had large 1” (?) ports with a 40 degree or so angled fitting.

As mentioned in other posts, Newell is shipping the newer bags with a much smaller port. They offer a fitting kit to step up to the larger fitting on the hoses.

The drive axle bags are fed by a single hose that Ys to feed both bags. The Y is very short and made to comfortably fit that angled fitting. Not sure if this is common.

With the new vertical fitting assortment, the hoses are too short.

Wondering if anyone had a school solution already that didn’t take 10 adapters to make work?

We just adapted to the ping tank ( which is actually not effective with smaller hoses ) The ride MIGHT be slightly harsher but still fine.

I replaced the drive axle air bags on my '86 , the originals were the same as your newer coach . The bags were also plumbed in a Y configuration from
the " ping" tanks with 1" hoses . The replacement bags have 1/4 NPT inlets in one of the mounting studs in each bag . After consulting with Richard and reading posts
of others , I decided to bypass the ping tanks and delete all the large hoses . I ran 3/8 DOT air lines direct from the control valves to the bags , maintaining equal length
hoses between the Ys and bags . A simpler solution than all the adapters , and the small inlet nullifies the effect of the ping tanks in any case  IMHO. We have only done about 1K miles since the replacement , but I can report no issues so far .
I sourced air bags from Fleet Pride .
Others may chime in with their experience .

Appreciate it. When I crawl under there tomorrow, I’ll take a look at that.

Mark,

this has been discusssed in a number of threads, so put “ air AND bags AND fittings AND smaller” into the search engine to get discussions on what to do

Personally, I would run new air lines from the six pack and totally eliminate the ping tanks.

Richard, appreciate the search string advice. I searched air bags as I lay beside my coach cursing Newell. I think I was blinded looking for that silver bullet post talking about an angled fitting they found.

I like the idea of running new line. I just need to crawl under again to visualize how I terminate the large line. Thanks.

When I did mine I intercepted the 1/4” line that feeds the ping tank and re-routed it over to the bags. It was fairly simple. I will be under there this weekend so I will try to get some shots of what I did with the lines.

Exactly what Jeff said !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont forget that when you bypass ping tank that the tag bag is fed from the ping tank so you have to also tee into that line

Rounded up some new tubing and fittings. Unfortunately my RV storage building is closed for the long weekend. Should be at it Monday. I’m sure I’ll have questions. Appreciate the guidance!
