As many of you know I’ve been fighting with my large SCS 2702 unit. Well I’m rebuilding it!!

I removed it, undercoating and rust proofing the compartment bay, put a stainless sheet on the floor of the bay.

Put the unit itself on saw horses.  It just got a new board at newell but the outside fan motor crapped out.  I’m replacing both fan motors, and all of the capacitors.  

I’ll add some pictures with where I’m at now and as progress goes.

Nice work Dennis! You will be happy when you are putting it back in! Yours is looking pretty dirty and crusty, thankfully mine were fairly clean. 

I thought about doing this to mine while I had them out but they really looked in great shape so I decided to risk it. So far so good.

FYI, on the capacitors, getting the same exact manufacturer and model can be difficult sometimes. Main thing is to match up the mfd rating and voltage rating. Mfd is microfarad btw, usually represented by a script letter uf.

I was able to get the capacitors off the interwebs pretty easy

Good deal, never heard of the Titan ones but looks like they are made in USA and sold by reputable sellers online.

Got the stainless laid down on the compartment floor.

Got one of the fan motors back together, should be able to reassemble this weekend

Nice, that stainless looks good. I am not sure if they realized this was a problem, mine has a white plastic under the units, kinda like the stuff a cutting board is made out of. It also makes it easier to slide the units out. 
I want to strip all that carpet out of the bay and replace it with something, not sure what yet. Its all full of dust and dirt on mine. I want something in there that I can wash down easily and keep the dust down in there.

Yep, the condensate from the units doesn’t always drain properly, and the floor takes a beating. Over time the plastic liner cracks. When I cut the old out, and replaced with new carbon steel. I first used POR paint, then laid fiberglass with epoxy over that. It may rust out from under sometime in the future but I am confident it won’t fail from the top.

Using stainless was a great idea.

So I was able to temporarily hook this up and test it today. However only 1 of the compressors is running. 

I’ve attached a diagram for some diagnostics help.

On compressor 1 on the control board the black wire goes to the right side of the capacitor 

And compressor 2 on the control board the yellow wire goes to the left side of the capacitor.

Could compressor 2 wire be on the wrong side of the capacitor??  I wired it the same way as I took it apart with all new capacitors.
