Muffler problems
#1

I have crack in the bottom end of my muffler. I have done a forum search and found some good information. One thing was take it off and have it welded, which I probably will do. But first there is one thing I would like to ask and that is fabricating new stainless pipes and flex pipes to fit a resonator instead of a muffler. When I had a Foretravel and belonged to their forum this is what a lot of the owner were doing. Not as much back pressure and claimed to get better mileage?? A stainless steel resonator will cost under $200.00. At the time I checked, they were about $150.00.
I don't know it just a thought.

Chappell maybe check over on the http://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.com/forums/
I know some of them have done that on 8v92s but there may be some that did it to 60's.

I don't see any reason it can't be done on the 60s. I was done on the 450 Cummiins. If I remember correctly Foretravel Mufflers were more expensive than the Newells. They were a really odd shape.

Keep us posted on your project progress. Hopefully we can see the new set up at the rally.

Chappell,

Bernd Ramspeck did the resonator install on my Cummins M11 there in Nacogdoches. I am sure he would have an opinion for your engine. He sure does like the change to my Foretravel.

I have noticed much cooler operation especially pulling hills, better acceleration but no real change in the MPG. When standing behind the the exhaust at idle, that engine really breathes. Much more air coming out than before the resonator.

Forest, on my Foretravel it had a straight exhaust when I bought it. Could not hear it from inside and it did not have the insulation that our Newells have. The resonators sort of take the harshness out of the sound and makes a sort of low mellow rumble. The sound is very good.

Forest,

Increased some but charging up the hills does not cause my engine temp gauge to move off of its normal setting. Before the change, the temp always rose.

Carolyn thinks it is louder but all the guys think it sounds awesome. I can only hear it if I am hammered down and that goes away as soon as I ease off the throttle.
