AquaHot electric heating
#1

My AquaHot when on electric heating, only heats at the rate of about 10 degrees per hour. This seems like slow heating to me and is this normal? I do not seem to have the switch that allows for a higher rate of heating.

I've experienced the same. Mine heats up slow too but not sure on exact rate of temperature rise. I had Newell check it out a month ago and they said it was operating normally. However, it was 98 degrees that week and I'm not sure that's a good time to test how well it's heating.

I rarely use electric, but when I do the temp goes to about 205 up to 213 and on diesel 202-206... Never takes more than 15 minutes for either to reach temp and after morning use, I turn it off completely until the following morning and maintain 100 to 140 degrees

Chester,

With Aqua Hot switches off, note amp draw on both legs. Turn on Aqua Hot electric switch and note amp draw. Report back.

Aqua Hot must have cooled enough to be calling for more tank heat and plugged into 50 amp service for max electric heating.

Electric heating will never challange the 50,000 btu diesel burner for fast heating. From ambient to full tank temp on diesel is 20 to 30 minutes while 2 to 3 hours on electric.

An added caveat to my post is that Rudy helped me change out my mixing valve guts at Spearfish and I adjusted it completely open since we like it "HOT". Rudy thought it should be a bit less hot to prevent scalding, but it has been great for us. This morning I tried the electric as a test, only since it is over 100 degrees here and the Aqua Hot temp reached 200 in 37 minutes from the standing temp of 160.

Rudy, with AquaHot off, #1 leg showed 1 amp, #2 4 amps. With electric switch on, #1 jumped to 8 amps and #2 stayed at 4 amps. Larry, 40 degrees in 37 minutes is fabulous using the electric, and that would take me 4 hours.

Chester,

There is a problem. The 120 vac should draw 12 plus amps and the 240 vac should ramp that way up.

Remove cover located above burner and press the red button on the high limit thermostat. Report back please.

Be careful and turn Aqua Hot electric switch off while resetting high limit thermostat.

Chester,
I'm sure Rudy will solve your problem as he did mine and I had to get dirty while he did all the thinking and explaining.

My electric will reach 215 in 25 min from 120. Chester I think your 4500 element is out.

Sounds very slow, mine will come up to 190 in less than 30 Min from temp of around 90. Have you tried the Diesel Aquahot to see how fast it comes up?
