Engine cover gas springs
#1

These are the four gas springs used to hold up the rear engine cover on my coach.  Not sure how many years these parts will be the same.  The link includes all measurements needed to verify if they will work on your year Newell.

I had to make a special clamp tool to compress the springs in order to replace them.

I'm hoping to be able to use a ratchet strap wrapped around the length of the strut with the ends of the strapped hooked together. Just ordered them. I'll update after I install them.

Your strap will need to 'slide' around the ends of the strut as it tightens - depending on the strap it might not want to slide easily.

It took a few tries to get the right technique down, but the ratchet strap method works. I put the strap around the strut with one end of the strut on the ground so I could push down on it with my weight while also ratcheting the strap. You have to watch the strap closely where it is sliding over the ends of the strut b/c it wants to slide off the side. Those were the correct struts for my '95.
Thanks for the help.
