HD Satellite Dish
#1

hi, i have an older in motion satellite dome. some point soon i will want to get satellite for our home and cabin and be able to use the receiver in the newell as well.

i see there are a few in motion domes that do HD with dish network, but i dont see anything compatible with direct tv. i have neither now so doesnt really matter.

mine would also need to be the low profile versions like i am sure most of you require as well.

so can you share your wisdom? we have a SD in motion dish on the 90 and to be honest only time we watched it in motion was to see if it worked in motion.

but maybe with the grandkids we would.

thoughts on which systems?

thanks

Tom,

I have both in-motion and HD (directv) antennas on my coach. Most of the HD antennas are going to be pretty large and not setup for in-motion. The only time I have really used the in-motion was when the HD antenna was blocked.

If I had it to do over...I would remove the in-motion and just add a HD antenna.

I agree with Bill. I have both and hardly ever use the in motion. Direct both in house and coach all 6 hd dvr. I open the account with the coach so I could get east and west feeds. Record a lot of programs on the dvr and then you can watch when moving and you don,t need the in motion and everything will then be in HD

When I purchased my coach a few months ago, the Directv antenna would not operate with current models of DVR HiDef receivers. I installed a Wingard Road Trip MiniMax Automatic, which not an in-motion antenna. Be aware it is 15" tall, but works great. I am out of my local footprint when traveling, so for just a few dollars I have New York and LA channels. I did not get the HiDef antenna since I believed NY and LA channels were not HiDef. I may be wrong, but I now think NY can be received in HiDef. Not an issue with me since my recently installed 37" Panasonic has an outstanding picture and fits perfectly in the space of the old 32" tube TV.

Chester, DirecTV does provide NY and LA networks in HiDef if you have the HiDef package. With a mobile account you can choose just one, NY if your home address is in the eastern part of the U.S. or LA if your home address is in the western part of the U.S., or both NY and LA at a higher price.

As an example, I get CBSe HD on 390 and CBSw HD on 391 using the mobile waiver.

i know i have this somewhere, but which HD dish do you guys recommend then? we dont have sat service now but will at some point soon so we can have our cabin on it too as well as the house and newell.

would it go where my in motion dome is now right near the front where the roof dips down?

i am assumming it would be too tall to put anywhere else on the roof?

thanks

I use Winegard's offering for HD on DirecTV. I have tried in-motion SD and MotoSat HD. The Winegard is by far the best. Well built and reasonable. It has NEVER failed to get a lock on all the birds when the view is clear all the way from Key West to Anacortes Washington. It folds down lower than the diesel exhaust stack on the roof. I can recommend it unconditionally.

Tom,

I bought the Wineguard to replace the motosat on mine. Great reviews and a decent price on Amazon. I have DirectTV at home and I just yank a reciever and put it in the coach when we roll. I like the HD. I never found an in motion that worked with DirectTv

I'm like Ron, record something on the DVR if the passengers need entertainment.

The only time we ever really used the in motion on a previous coach was when I was trying to outrun a band of tornadoes in Texas, No kidding. Rhonda was NOT amused.
