Low coolant light; Check engine
#1

When I woke up this morning and turned on the engine I am getting a Stop Engine, Low Coolant and Check Engine light (I stopped the engine).   What is the BEST way to check the coolant level in this beast please?

I will call after-hours support or wait for morning crews to arrive at Newell offices.

We are in the parking lot of SpeedCo near Tuscaloosa, AL (south of Birminham).  I had them change the oil in the engine and genset and they checked some other things in the PM they performed (they found 5 air tank purge valves!).

BTW, I was able (finally) to locate the 12-volt air pump that runs the air for the bathroom and I believe the slides as well - it seems to just run and does nothing... I will address that issue later as the 110-volt and engine air seem to be working fine.

Adrian,

Open the little hatch door above the driver side radiator. It typically takes a key to open the door. You will find a radiator cap behind that door. There is also a sight glass
In that tank.

You should also have a gray overflow tank in the engine compartment on the left side of the engine. Open the rear hatch and it should be about eye level on the left. Make sure that level is ok also.

I checked the coolant 'door' and the sight glass is not showing anything. Newell called :-). I will run in to SpeedCo and get some coolant and that should solve the problem - if you don't hear from me within an hour that means 'all clear' - Thanks for the quick responses!
Grey overflow tank: I show about 3 inches of green coolant in it so that should be ok right? I guess I could put a stick in it to check it when hot...

If the radiator is not full and the overflow tank has fluid in it there is a problem either with your radiator cap or the line to the overflow tank isn't air tight (either at a connection or the line itself). Whenever the radiator level gets lower than absolutely full to the brim when cooling after shutdown the coolant in the overflow tank is supposed to be sucked into the radiator which in your case seems not to happen. If the system is working properly you wouldn't need to check the sight glass, just check the overflow tank when cold to see that it has fluid in it.

Jon has a good point. After we picked up our 1998 and drove a few hours the low coolant light came on. Turned out the hose from radiator cap to the overflow tank was too large a diameter and was leaking. Replaced it with right size and all was well.

Thanks for the advice! I will go ahead and replace the hose on the overflow tank to be sure and make sure nothing is clogged up. Been driving several hours (wife is driving now) and so far no problems (other than as soon as she starts driving we either run into the worst weather ever or road work! Lol) ...

Update: we were able to get all the way down to Corpus two days ago with NO issues after filling the coolant reservoir - the coach ran like a dream.
