Block heaters in Newell Classics....early 80's
#1

Have any of you who own early 80's Classics with a 6v92 power plant pulled out your block heater heating element to just check its efficacy,  or just replace it? How big is it,  and how difficult was it too change out? Mine is working fine with no issues,  but my brother-in-law's (Glenn Parker)is not working, so this is more for him than me,  but I'm wondering, too.

Clark, With power OFF, disconnect one of the two wires to the heater. Use VOM to check ohm reading of element. I am guessing 6 to 9 ohms, not a large number and not open circuit.

If open, replace.

Another way is place clamp on amp meter over one wire to element. Turn on power. If no current flow, check for 120 vac on terminals. If power present and no current flow, replace.
