Cooling Fan - Multi-Wing Z Series Fan
#51

For a shop that has the right machine that would be a very easy repair, probably would only have to take 0.005"-to 0.010" to clean it up and it would not shorten the shaft up very much, if the don;t have the right machine or know how to use it properly it would not turn out right and vibrate until it come apart again.

I reached out to my WingFan contact unfortunately he has retired.

I did talk to this young man. He can help order a new fan.

His predecessor hooked me up with new blades at a reasonable price.

Good luck!

Hmm, I didn't see this Sad  I bought the fan assembly from Newell for around 750 after shipping Sad

I took it to a freightliner repair place.  They are going to buy parts to rebuild the overhung adapter.  Zero-max they said they didn't have any units built and that it would take until the end of the month to make one.  They said the last order they had was placed last year.  Ultimately, I could have bought one from Newell, but that would have cost a ton.  We shall see if the rebuild works first.  Hopefully, it will work and be relatively inexpensive.

Corey,

Not trying to overwhelm you, but read through this post till you get to the part where I filled the OHLA with grease and bypassed the Newell design. It has worked great and eliminated a leak source. https://newellgurus.com/showthread.php?t...&pid=52619

At any case, there is one CRITICAL step in reassembling the OHLA that must be done correctly. It’s a simple device so the FL shop may not take the time to carefully read the manufacturers instructions. There is a circlip that holds the bearings inside the case. That is common. That circlip is TAPERED. The purpose of the taper is to preload the bearings. If it is put in backwards the bearings will be too loose. Make sure the shop knows about the taper.

And you are asking, what is a circlip? https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/...UQEA&adurl=

That’s not the one in the OHLA, just sending a pic of one, so you know what we are talking about.
