Hey guys!

I just had a truck driver turn down hauling my rig (a 1986) because he said it was to long for his trailer. Does anyone know what the wheelbase is on a 1986?

BTW Progressive is not the insurance to have when you need a tow. Basically they ghosted me and then sent a pickup truck tow rig three weeks later.

I set up an account with Coachnet and they were very attentive and helpful even though it was a "pre-existing" condition and as such, they couldn't pay for the tow.
It's been almost four weeks now since the breakdown and if I can ever get it on a trailer and headed home It'll be about $1,500 for the tow.
I'll let you know once it's diagnosed and what the repair costs are.

If you can possibly find a bus carrier (LanDall / Landoll?) that is MUCH better than using a truck with a ‘Stinger’… trust me on this, you do not want a BENT coach… make sure they disconnect the axles and run air to the coach to keep the suspension up…

Any heavy tow shop in the area should have a Landall trailer. Its by far the best way to go over long distance. The problem you'll run into though is the height once its loaded will most likely be right at or over the legal limits of 13 foot 6 inch. that requires permits and pilot cars and its a mess. Any further info on what the breakdown might be? a lot of us here in this forum could probably get you a solution to make it home with. Short of engine or transmission failure.

It threw its belts and blew a radiator hose and then overheated. Now it's blowing coolant out of the exhaust. So it kinda needs a shop before I do any more damage.
I would run it to load and unload but that's about all I'd feel comfortable with.
I mean after 40 years it probably needed new seals anyway, right?

darn. That's a bummer. Yeah from my experience that sounds like a cracked head from the overheating. A blown head gasket at the least. Possible oil cooler damage.

Bus Grease Monkey is in the Nashville area . Looks like about 400 miles from you . Not many Detroit two stroke mechanics around these days .

You can find Bus Grease Monkey on You Tube , there are many videos with your 8v92 engine . In fact , he is currently rebuilding an 8V92 in a yacht on the water . At least one of the 
Gurus has been to his shop with a Newell Classic that I know of . He has videos of buses being towed to his place , worth a look , will give some insight into what it takes to transport a 40 foot motor coach .

She's scheduled for pickup today. To be shipped all the way back to northern Illinois. Strangely it cost about the same as a tow an hour away???
