Trying to find the air dryer on a 1994 Newell Motor Coach??
#1

Hello everyone,
I am trying to find the air dryer for the air compressor. I have checked everywhere with no luck but not sure where to look? The airbags and hwh system is not supplying adequate pressure. I believe it is air compressor and will replace it possibly tomorrow evening if the air compressor arrives on time. Can anyone tell me where the air dryer is located? It's an older system the coach is a 94 Newell and the air compressor shows 28599 Detroit diesel 501 compressor and vin is 1N9450X85R1011341.. thank you ?

Yup, mind is behind the Driver's side Tag. Inboard of the tire. Look for an "oil filter looking assembly"

coach 480  air dryer filter located behind drivers side tag. if you have never changed one  make sure you pump all the air out of the system

most 8v92 air dryers were in the engine compartment on the drivers side front firewall

I have to change compressor that's attached to engine. It's a Detroit Diesel Allison 501 compressor 28599 .. but can not find the right compressor I need the compressor and air dryer .. but no luck finding it talked to Newell and they are saying 3 month wait... SMH frustrating ? anyone know a good place to find the compressor it's older model compressor and system.. ? Thank you.. and I think I found it .. it looked different than the ones I was pulling up for reference ..

I mean I think i found location of air dryer.. then was saying I'm looking for correct part to order.. I noticed the way I worded it before could be confusing.. just wanted to explain ?

Air dryers are easy to find when the compressor is working correctly and the purge valve releases. I am assuming your purge valve never gets enough pressure from your compressor to actuate  ?

The air dryer has a desiccant cartridge that can be changed, Unless there is a crack or some other internal failure, the entire unit should not need to be replaced. The cartridge replacement is roughly 30-35 bucks.

As far as the compressor itself they do fail. Do you have a Detroit series 60? Is it an 8V92? Ill need more info to point you in the right direction on that. The part number you supplied i believe is supposed to be 285995. that would make your engine an 8V92. The compressor is really a simple device and is rebuildable. It consists of a piston with compression ring a intake and exhaust valve and a head gasket. All on a gear drive from the engine. try this link and see what they have,  https://www.ebay.com/itm/112943546550

For the time being what is wrong with your compressor? Are you sure its the compressor that has failed? Can it be rebuilt locally?

Are you losing air? Not building enough air? Have you changed the governor?

Any response from me may be delayed as I'm in Alaska.
