BRAKES
#1

Does my coach have the SB series brakes on it or the SN series brakes??

I have a front caliper hanging up, i'm taking it to my local truck repair place but I want to give them as much info as I can.  Part numbers would be great

I'm going to have them service the front and tag.

You will have to look at the tag on the caliper.

I was told at the western star service center near me.  Prior to them looking at it or even pulling it in that those caliper bushings are NOT greasable..  are they BS’ing me??

They don’t have zerk fittings on them for sure. One of the pins is exposed and IIRC it doesn’t get grease. One of them is enclosed and I think it does get grease. Prevost sells a pin kit for those calipers. I recall one of the pins has a rubber bellows and that is the one that is greased.

Can you get the wheels off? Those brakes are not hard to service. You can change the pads in five minutes. You will need a 14mm hex and impact gun to remove the pins if you want to take them out.

The manuals are easy to find on the internet.

I am able to get the wheels off.  I'll try to do that this weekend.  I just want to check the pads, rotors, and make sure the calipers are moving appropriately..

My left front steer wheel is like 30 degrees warmer than the passenger side.  I thought a caliper may have been hung up, but it doesn't smell like brakes that were stuck on...

Unless you can think of another reason as to why that would happen??

Check weight and inflation pressure compared to other tire. Alignment might also be a factor.

How do I check the bearings??  They look to be sealed bearings unlike the tag which has the stemco ones

If the driver’s side was in the direct sun, passenger side in the shade of the coach, I’ve had that kind of difference in wheel temps.

How did the front compare to the driver’s side rears?

With the wheel on, use a pry bar on the bottom of the tire to check for looseness. With the wheel off turn rotor by hand as fast as you can and listen for rumble. Post a pic of the cap on the spindle. Bus Grease Monkey has videos od bad bearings
