Aqua-Hot's Noisy Circulator Pump
#1

I started hearing an odd, pulsing sound from our Aqua-hot when a particular zone would come on.
Then, the noise became a LOT louder and constant.

I verified that it was the zone which supplied the Bedroom and Baths.

So, the research began. I determined it was a bad circulator pump and have since then learned those failed frequently.

Newell is replacing them with OASIS units now, yet Aqua-Hot sells Buehler pumps. I've got the Buehler kit on order since is nearly half the price.

The badder news is...a couple days ago, I found water under the coach and discovered a pool of water in my wet bay. Sooooo, I'm really hoping the two are related; in other words, I'm hoping the bad pump is leaking.

However, the leak has subsided so I'm wondering if, one, the fluid has dropped below the point of leaking or, two, I have a leak elsewhere and the reason for the noisy pump is CAVITATION and not bearing failure.

Anybody? Chime in...PLEASE!!

My aquahot tank had a leak two years ago in Orange Beach Alabama it was dripping out the exhaust exit on the bottom for the diesel burner on to the concrete. We were wintering in that area and it was not a place to work on the aquahot so bought 4 bottles of bards stop leak and put in the tank and it quit leaking over a weeks time. I've put off pulling the tank as its still working. Snake oil but its still working.

I replaced all 4 Buhler circulating pumps several years ago.  It started with a hose clamp leak, you may get lucky.  I also replaced the hoses, it's a good thing to do while you're in there.  Was the water you discovered slippery like hydronic fluid?

Jim it was antifreeze from the tank, Richard told me the tank has a seem and most likely it had given out. I checked the thermostats and filler neck hoping it was them but no good they were dry.

Jim,

Yes…the fluid WAS SLIPPERY and had a heckuva lot sweeter smell than you know what else. AND no…I didn’t give it the “taste test”! LOL
