Generator starts but immediately dies when I release switch
#1

Larry 2006 Newell 45 #756. I am having an issue with my generator, it starts and runs great but dies as soon as I release the start switch. I’ve checked the oil pressure sender and it’s fine. The coach is new to me 2 weeks ago and is in very nice condition but I kind of need the generator to work. Any help would be appreciated.

This typically means there is no voltage being produced.  Does the cooling fan run if you keep the engine running?
It might help if you were to identify the brand or model of the generator.

Larry,
This happened to mine before and I'll tell you what the issue was and the fix.
There is a multi-wire connector between the coach and the generator located in the generator box on the curb side of the generator. A 12v connector was corroded and or just not making contact. The generator tech simply bypassed the connector and spliced the 12volt wire together.
This was a temporary fix as I was having hip replacement surgery the next day. They squeezed me in because of this and it was coming up on the beginning of hurricane season.
If I ever have to remove the generator I'll return the connection to OEM specs.

Ok, I unplugged and jumped the extinguisher and it fired up and ran perfect. The pressure on the extinguisher is not in the green zone. It is the original date, so I assume the lower pressure on the gauge was the problem.

Yep, that'll do it!

Now...if it's the same models they used through all but the most recent the years. brace yourself on the cost of those Sea-Fire extinguishers!

I had a bit of go-round with Newell on a pricing error and ended up paying what they charge which wasn't that far off of anywhere else I could find.

Can the extinguisher be recharged or is it garbage?
