How to cook a battery?
#21

Your right Richard. The cool batteries are probally good. Not so much the hot ones. You may want to just hook the two good ones in parallel. And adjust the charger to match.

I have a Freedom 2500 with Link 2000 remote panel.
I'll get a hydrometer tomorrow and check each cell.
Richard there is a battery disconnect switch next to the set of 4 batteries. If I turn that off then that should protect my alternator while driving correct?

Forrest, This link will provide you with the info to measure the specific gravity on your batteries.

Update: last night I turned off the battery switch since some of the batteries were hotter than ambient. This morning I disconnected each negative cable to isolate each battery and here are my readings:
#1 12.36 v
#2 12.36 v
#3 12.12 v
#4 12.04 v
#5 11.98 v
#6 12.29 v

So it looks like I have 3 bad or suspect batteries, these are Exide dated October 2011.
I reconnected batteries #1, 2, & 6 leaving the others isolated. I'll see how that works and try to find a hydrometer today.
Another thing when I turned the switch back on before doing this the inverter gave an error code E4 which means "battery short". Once I reconnected the 3 good batteries I'm still getting the E4 error and it doesn't look like it is charging. So I may have an inverter/charger problem also.
Just recycled shore power and now the inverter/charger is charging and no error codes so never mind.

Forrest, you need to hard reset the Inverter/charger and change the settings to match the new bank... If you don't have the manual you can download it from http://www.xantrex.com/industry-solution...icles.aspx

If you need batteries guys, keep me in mind, you'll like the Guru price.

I have Freedom 25's also with Zantrex Remotes and one of the Prevost guys told me there were issues with the Link 2000's. Here was his note to me:

Another issue that's not well known is that the Link 2000 intelligent remotes can cause charging issues. I experienced this last year and was assured by Xantrex they couldn't cause the problem. Ben Cummings and the Oregon service center said otherwise. I replaced the smart remotes with the dumb ones and the problem was corrected.

Tom, I am thinking of replacing my six 8D house batteries with 12 six volt Golf Cart batteries. Where do you sell these batteries?

The 6 V would not fit the Newell tray because of height

Richard, I have TROJAN T-105 6 Volts DC "Golf Cart" type Batteries in our size 8D Battery Trays and they fit fine on the height but need a little blocking on the width. Now if you are thinking TROJAN T-605 or equivalent I agree since they are taller.

It would have more accurate to say the 6v don't fit my battery trays. As we know many subtle changes even with consecutive serial numbers
