Steve Denton turned me on to this guy cause he is in Alaska right now, in some of the same places we are. And he looks like me, or vice versa. 

Anyway, watching this video of the innards of his rig revealed some interesting approaches to power management in a full on, no budget considered, power management system. 

I am curious as to what you think.

Sub-Zero 700TCI-3 Codes 40 & 24, Evaporator Defrost Heater.  Took the freezer apart to find the evaporator as a block of ice.  Defrosted it and ordered the heater element which tested bad as well as ordering the Defrost Terminator on principal.  Today I defrosted it and replaced the parts.  Took just over an hour.

Tools needed, 4mm Allen wrench, long Phillips #2 screwdriver, longnose pilers.  Maintenance manual is excellent with one exception.  The evaporator screws had to be removed to allow the new heater bottom end and the brown wire to go under the evaporator.
                   

I found a couple of places to buy replacement door switches and are direct replacements. The Standard ones I got from Home Depot and the Duralast one I got from AutoZone. The Home Depot ones are cheaper and took longer to get.

We just purchased a 2002 Newell and the step controller is working intermittently.  Does anyone know if this Kwikee step controller can be replaced with the controller 909510000?  I am getting a $400+ price online for the replacement part number 379606.

For the long time readers of the forum, I deserve it, go ahead and roll your eyes at yet another Richard post on fine tuning the handling. I know, I am OCD. I am also a bit slow on the uptake.

We are 6000 miles into this trip, and every since we have left home in April, I have had the impression that the coach has never handled better, and I am speaking with regard to holding the lane. The least course correction that I can accurately remember in owning this rig for 9 years and all of the improvements and adjustments I have made. 

Curiously, I did NOTHING over the winter to the suspension, tires, or any other adjustment that I could connect to the improvement in “wander”. Don’t get me wrong, I had the coach to the point of driving really well, so the change I notice is more of a 2% improvement, not a 20% improvement. Why say that, cause I don’t want you to think my following comments are a major contributor to handling.. They are more related to a change to an already dialed in setup. 

It hit me that I had made a change over the winter, but not to the coach. I had the Subaru aligned, and I specifically told the alignment tech to set it up to the maximum toe allowed in the specifications. Don’t center in the specs, set it at the max toe. Why did I tell him that? Although the Subie is 4wd, it is primarily front wheel drive. Front wheel drive cars are set up with the front actually toed out a bit. The reason for this is the force of the front wheel drive pulls the tires inward resulting in toe in while the car is under power. However, that force does not occur when towing the car. My logic was that if the toad were toed out when pulled, then it would track side to side like a toed out vehicle is prone to do. 

I saw the set up sheet. The dude did as I asked. I forgot about the alignment till the other day, and the A Ha moment hit me. 

Again, this was a subtle improvement to an already well driving coach. But if you are towing a front wheel drive vehicle, it is something to think about the next time you have it aligned.

Not my idea but a good one at that, thought i'd pass it along.....    

Thank you letting me join this group.  Some of you will know who I am by just the user name.  Newell coach #567.  My knowledge of generators extends to flipping the switch to turn it on, but I can refer you to someone who is an expert.  Looking forward to seeing post especially about any upcoming rallies.

coach 480  obviously newell has a larger dump valve connector in which I have.. Question is is that I would have to leave the compartment door open to drain the tanks. It almost is a 90 degree angle strain out of the valve. Newell sent me a new connector that is like 45 degree angle. If I cut and hook a hose to it it will not go out the port hole in the bottom of the coach. has anyone came up with a solution for this or am I missing something.. We do alot of travel in the winter and dont want to leave a water bay door open.            Thank you.  Im sure Richard has a answer. Pics included

I dry camp exclusively.  That said if I let my batteries deplete down to 20-30% I can end up with 3-4 hours of charge time on the generator.  At some point I may add solar, but one of my favorite spots is super shady so that would not help. I think my current setup allows for roughly 100 amps/hr of charging.
