Four down and five to go! My crew at work.
Greetings all!
My parents owned an RV for my entire life. My dad's dream was to have a Newell and that was realized in 1994 when they bought coach #254, a 1991 model, one of Bill Kroft's "Kroft Lofts". We began traveling in it immediately and had so many fun times, including many Newell Rallies in it over the years. My husband and our two boys became addicted to the Newell life as well traveled many places with my parents. Over the past few years, my dad and mom's heath has prohibited them from enjoying the Newell. My husband and I could not help them keep it up, as we were been busy with the lives of our teenage kids. My dad passed away this past November, and we are currently trying to ready #254 for a long-overdue trip to Florida with my mom and our family to some of our favorite places. Although I know a great deal about the coach, my husband and I feel overwhelmed at the knowledge my dad had about it that we are missing in his absence. We want to bring it back to life and to it's full potential as we move into our retirement years as a means to create our own memories, as well as travel with my mom. We look forward to any help we can get from this forum!
This may not apply to many but thought I’d put it out here to save the ones that are $186 for a new handle!
I’ve got a side hinged bay doors with the aluminum skin on the back side so you can’t access the pull cable. I broke on of the handles (that could’ve been fixed) on a bay that had no other access from the underneath (electronics bay) and the other way in was to drill it out and grab the pull cable. Now that I’ve replaced the handle (Newell said they have been out for a few months and just got a shipment in) I added a second pull cable and ran down to the bottom where I can pull it to open if this should happen again. That’s one bay I didn’t want to be locked out of on the road!
-I moved the second cable to the actual latch itself rather than where it is in the pic. That way if plastic gear breaks it will still work.

looking for a 43 ft or shorter.2010 or older would prefer mid door and rear bathroom if possible.will consider just about any coach.
While fixing the broken fuel pickup tube as chronicled in the Emergency section, I am replacing the fuel sender. Easy to do while the tank is out of the coach. I had previously replaced the sender about 2 years ago but it never read correctly, always reading lower than what was actually in the tank. I assumed that I bought the wrong sender or the wrong length sender.
So I bought not one but two more. One from VDO and one from KUS because I liked the external bobber on the sender.
Installed both the them and same result. The tank reads much lower below 3/4 tank than it is. I could prove this because I still had the senders external to the tank. I suspected a wiring issue, so I wired the sender directly to the gauge in the cockpit. Same result.
I suspected faulty ground, so I made a new ground. Same result.
Hmm, order a new gauge.
Then I pulled the old gauge out, and discovered a mysterious screw hole on the side of the gauge. Bingo, I wired it all up on the bench with the KUS sender, and was able to adjust the gauge to read very close the actual level of the float. Woo Hoo, who knew. The variable ohm lettering on the side was a clue that the gauge may be adjustable.
So, if your gauge is off, it’s something to look into.
Hmmm, cancel order for new gauge.
Hey All,
So, the link at the end of the Kwikee A arm has broken. Motor is fine, controller is fine, switch is fine. Steps themselves are a bit bent when i got them.
Gearbox # is the old 151320 and the Arm is labeled 151384
new Gearbox appears that it will fit fine, but the motor fits differently (angle) on the gearbox so the cover will not attach.
I ordered a new compatible gearbox from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BD7VDK5Y?psc...ct_details
I have the steps removed at the moment, and am also wondering if I should attempt to bend the step arms straight.
Lastly, can you open the light housing to replace the bulb?? I believe it's a 193/194 style.
Any help would be great!
I have a couple of connections that leak at the fitting that screws onto the inlet of the water filter. Normally, I have been cutting these out and converting to Pex with a poly/pex converter fitting and then using a stainless steel braided sink hose for attachment. Where the water filter is located, it is a much tougher challenge. I would rather replace this bushing and move on with my life. I can't seem to find these. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
We are in Brinkley Arkansas , 40 miles east of Memphis Tennessee. Our coach is an 8V92TA that is trying to give me a heart attack. I have had problems with high idle, and throttle not "releasing" after cresting a hill. This is a real heart stopper.. We are safely off the road in an rv campground, and won't continue on until I can resolve this. Now from time to time the throttle feels like it "sticks to the floor", I was able to work around it by shutting down the engine, and restarting and putting it in gear before it could get up to 2000 plus rpm. I have limped in to the campground, and when restarting the engine , the problem persists. I know nothing about this. I believe the air throttle is behind the air cleaner on the passengers side. Tomorrow I will remove the air cleaner and visually inspect , but I don't know what I am looking for. Ironically, we have an appointment for next week at the Bus Grease Monkey in Centerville Tennessee for a complete check up. Any and all advise is appreciated.

Tim Wade, asked about his fuel usage without a working gauge over in the Newell Coach Owners group on FaceBook. I thought it would be appropriate to publish my response here.
We are coach #525 and have a 275 gallon tank. We get 8.3 @ 65 mph towing a Honda CRV. Our tank is 27" tall so about 10 gallons of fuel per inch not counting the sump which is about four gallons. The low level fuel switch (if it works) is 3" off the bottom of the tank (not the sump) thus when it goes off you have 30ish gallons usable fuel. The fuel pickup for the generator and Aqua Hot are about two inches off the bottom fuel tank and below the low fuel warning light....so they will quit working soon after the low level light comes on. The engine fuel pickup actually extends below the tank level into the sump 9about 1" off the bottom of the sump that you see from under the coach. So you have some really good indicators as to the end of the run for a tank of fuel. Oh, almost forgot. We allow about 12% of a tank fuel for generator and aqua hot usage which has worked out pretty close as to the way we operate.
