Last January (2019) we visited Richard and Rhonda in Inverness, FL.  Richard had removed their Villa passenger chair from their Newell and had offered it free of charge to anyone who would come to their home to pick it up.  We accepted their offer sometime in 2018 knowing we would be in Florida in January of 2019.

We arrived at their home on January 4th, and on January 5th we began the removal of TLE's old, worn out Flexsteel captain's chair, and the installation of the Villa chair in its place.  In all it took about 5 hours beginning to end, and having Richard helping made that timeline possible....without him it would have taken me a couple of days.  He provided the Grade 8 bolts and washers, and gave me very good advice about the proper installation to avoid it ripping out of the floor in an accident, or very sudden panic stop.  The pictures below show the initial installation on January 5th, 2019.

   

   

The Villa chair had been sitting for about a year, and a couple of the power functions were not working properly.....the foot rest would only raise a few inches, and the reclining feature would only move an inch, or so.  We suspected the drive screws needed lubrication, but by that time the seat was installed, so it would be necessary to remove the back leather panel to access those items properly.  

Fast forward to March 18, 2020.....I had still not taken off that back leather panel, but finally decided to stop procrastinating.  As I began to remove the staples holding the bottom of the panel in place I began to realize why I had procrastinated......over the space of 24" I had to remove over 70 staples, and that took the better part of an hour.....

   

.....finally the underside of the Villa chair was exposed.  Next I had to identify which motors, and drive screws moved the footrest, and the reclining of the back of the seat.  The first picture below shows the drive screw controlling the footrest.....

....I sprayed some penetrating oil on both drive screws on both sides of the drive motors, waited a few minutes, and them pushed the toggle switches to see if they would now work.....the footrest immediately began to rise, and the back of the seat began to recline.....both functions now work perfectly....

   

....lubing the drive screws was quite easy, it was just getting access that took so long.  We will reattach the leather back panel with Velcro.....no more staples, or tacks!

It seems that campgrounds are being closed due to the Coronavirus.....such as Florida State Campgrounds starting this Friday.   Truck/Camper magazine has begun a petitions asking that this be stopped — here is the article, and the petition — as there is danger that all campgrounds could follow suit....and many live in their coaches, RV’s - what then.  The petitions suggests very reasonable rules that could be followed and still keep campgrounds open.   I am attaching the link.....please read and sign....

  One of the neighbors in our 55+ community returned from a 7 day cruise this past Saturday.  He immediately went out visiting throughout the neighborhood.  Then yesterday he posted on Nextdoor that "HE WAS NOT INFECTED".  I along with a few others called him out and told him that according to CDC guidelines he needed to consider that he was infected and self-isolate for 14 days.  He finally admitted we were right and is (hopefully) going to isolate himself.  BUT for 4 days he was out among others including riding in his golf cart with a friend.  Again our neighborhood is all in the demographic at highest risk.  Hopefully he is NOT infected and hasn't passed it along to others.  We are keeping our distance from others as long as it takes.

today me and my buddy changed the front drivers side airbag on my 99.  it is a firestone W01-358-8087

the one on the coach was badly checked and was leaking on the side of it when i sprayed bubbles on it.  

it is not a hard task if you have the tools.  

a trick we used was to put the new bag in, we sucked the air out of it with a shop vac and then used a piece of wire to keep it compressed so it would go back in easily.  

we had to rotate the bottom of the bag to get the mounting bolts to break loose.  

the old airbag had a different rubber bag part than the new one.  the old bag had the metal bottom held on with 4 nuts.  once they were off, the bottom came off, the plate inside the airbag came loose and you could stick your hand inside the bag.  the new bag was sealed on the bottom and had one bolt that held the bottom metal mount on and you could easily rotate the bottom to align the mounting holes.  

1.  lifted coach as high as it would go with air leveling system,
2.  put 4 jackstands underneath.  let all air out of front bags using down arrow on hwh control.  
3.  put my air over hydraulic jack to jack up the wheel off the ground.  
4.  used 1" impact gun with 1 1/2" impact socket (left hand thread since we were on drivers side) and took lugnuts off
5.  used wheel dolly to remove tire/wheel
6.  broke loose air fitting and removed on top
7.  removed 4 3/4" nuts on top of airbag mount
8.  removed 2   3/4" bolts from bottom mount
9.  used two large pry bars to squash bag down to remove it. 
10.  removed air fitting using 1/2" impact gun and installed in new bag with goop
11.  loosened nut on bottom of new airbag and oriented bottom mount properly
12.  used shop vac to suck bag down and compressed and tied with piece of 12g wire.  
13.  put in mount.  started two bottom bolts into mount,  then aligned top bolts in upper frame
14.  connected air hose and partially inflated bag using hwh up arrow on panel
15.  verified bag was aligned and not twisted.
16.  put on all mounting bolts and nuts and tightened air hose
17.  put wheel and tire back on and torqued with 1" torque stick to 475ft lbs.  verified with torque wrench.

We just arrived at Buckhorn Lake Resort, Kerrville, TX  just off of I-10.  Beautiful place, if anyone is here or coming here in the next 6 weeks please look us up would like to visit.

The backup lights on our 1984 Newell Classic do not work. They are located in the rear bumper. After extensive (for us) sluthing, Laureen and I have concluded that there is some sort of switch or relay located under the gear shift that is not sending the proper signal when we put the gear shift into reverse. I have attached a couple of  pictures (below) of the suspected small cannister device. What is this thing called and where do I buy one? How do I get the old one out?

We came to the conclusion that this small switch is the culprit after doing the following:

1. Removed the lights from the bumper and hooked them up to a 12v source. They worked fine. We reinstalled them after cleaning up the housings and adding ground wires (they were originally self grounding but the housings are 36 years old).

2. We confirmed that we have continuity from that switch over to the front fuse/terminal panel in front of the passenger seat, then back to the panel on the outside rear of the coach and then down to the backup lights reinstalled in the rear bumper.

3. We have 12v on one of the wires on that switch but not the other one (tested with the coach in reverse and the ignition switch in the on position. 

We think that little switch is not closing the circuit to allow current to flow when we turn on the key and put the gear selector into reverse. If that is true, how do I get it out? Where do I find a replacement? What is this thing called?

I have replaced all the original night day blinds in the coach with another brand and style. The removed ones are the pleated style with off white day shades and taupe night shades. 

All but the kitchen window one are in great shape. For some reason it has coffee stains on it. 

I don't know if there is any interest. I will keep them around for a while in case someone needs a spare.
