Forum: Help, I need help ASAP

After a three day holdup from leaving on a month vacation, due to having to replace the Bendix air compressor on the Detroit Series 60, we are finally ready to go! The job of replacing one of these is taxing, but doable. That is a tough job of lining up the pump to the reduction gear while holding that heavy thing up. I'm definitely earning my Junior Guru badge! But I am also feeling good about learning how to do all the maintenance myself, and saving some big bucks along the way.
Here is my last issue...
I have a crack in the coolant overflow container. Any last minute fixes?
Thought about epoxy or fiberglass resin.
Any idea where to get a replacement? Quickly?  LOL!
Let me know Thanks again Guys!

Many thanks to @"Chester Stone" for this one. He mentioned in one of the guru sessions the icemaker unit was generic and relatively easy to replace. Since mine had been shedding it's coating into the ice for a while, Rhonda hinted that I should replace it.

I found an OEM on Amazon for 80 bucks, but generics could be had for 40.

Thanks Chester!!

This incident happened with @"qcj" coach at the rally, and it was a learning experience for us all.

Here is a picture of the air brake relay valve upside down. I chose this picture because it most clearly shows the problem area. The purpose of this valve is to use air pressure from the brake pedal to open the relay valve. This allows a huge volume of air to press on the brake chambers. When the pedal is released the relay valve opens instantaneously releasing all air on the brake chambers. There is one relay valve per axle, for a total of three on the coach. There may also be one that releases the parking brakes, I am not sure about that.

First of the all the problem was that the center insert, the moving part of the valve, the white domed part in the picture, failed. This allowed air which feeds the upper part of the valve to bleed excessively. The compressor could not keep up with the bleed rate enough to disengage the parking brake.

In hindsight, we could have removed the large 3/8 air feed line to the valve and capped it. That would have stopped the leak, and Chappel would have had brakes on the other two axles plus being able to release the emergency brakes.

Well, we weren't that smart in an emergency and we partially caged the Park brakes and eased him into his parking space.

What we learned from Tom's bus guy Leo was that the pros simply remove the circlip holding the guts in the valve and replace it with new innards. They do not replace the valve assembly. After attempting to remove the assembly and punting, I understand the approach. The insides are spring loaded so be aware when you take the clip out. Any truck place or NAPA should be able to get the valve or the rebuild kit.

Both at the rally and here in Elephant Butte my front A/C freezes up frequently.  This is with both compressors running on high.  Any idea what is causing this and what can I do about it.?

After 15 years, the stitching in my Girard awning has let go.  It still works to protect from the sun but I am concerned what wind might do to the disconnected material.  Has anyone ever had their awning restitched?  How difficult is it to remove the material to be sewn or can it be sewn in place?

Lost both boards due to low ac volts. Both boards failed in the same place, a relay on the board. If you are in a park that has low volts do not run in high, just start the generator, if you need high. Basement Air

I am not sure what my coach is worth.  It has 130,000 miles, runs great.  All systems work.  We just never bonded to the RV life and now looking for a new owner to my #551 Newell 45' coach.  Tires new 3 years ago, has full tank of fuel and has been housed inside while former owner and myself owned it.  I can send photos and further description to any interested parties.  Bill Larson [email protected].  Phone: 608/436-4901

I finally got some springs for the water bay door and cannot get them installed.  They are about 1/2" too long but I figure that is for slack so that they hold the door all the way open.  The numbers match the old struts but I cannot compress them (150lbs) to get them on.
Anyone know of a strut compressor I can get to install these things?

Hey guys,
No emergency, but...
Trying to leave tomorrow on a months journey. Any suggestions on a nice route to Badlands, Yellowstone, and great points in between, then back to Florida? We are leaving, just not sure exactly where, Lol!
We have always run, seat of the pants, no particular schedule, just a general direction, plans never seem to work out anyway. Dodgy
