As we were driving last night we ran one too many loads of laundry and ran the water tank dry.. My headhunter pump stopped due to lack of water. A very fine fellow guru explained I probably had air in my lines and help me purge the entire system. Having the 12 volt pump to help reprime the system was a godsend.  Thank you to Bill for your assistance.

About a year ago, I had Newell replace the rear air bags on my coach (2003 model).  In August of 2014 I was back at Newell for some other work and we realized that one / both airbags were leaking.  Replaced again.

Fast forward to Jan 2015...I am at Newell and bags are leaking again.

They have now been replace again, but I am wondering what is causing the failures.

Symptoms:
1) There is no obvious damage to the air bags.
2) On one of the failed airbags and possibly on all of the failed ones, there is a metal support piece (imagine the inside of a donut) that came loose.  I will append pics of that piece, but in the goodyear diagram (attached) it is the piece that holds the bottom of the airbag to the coach.
3) Air seems to be coming from bottom of bag, not from fittings.

Here are my questions:

1)  The number on the bags old / new is 1R11-066.  Is this familiar to anyone with a 2000 vintage coach?
2)  Has anyone just had bags start leaking for no reason?  (No checking, no holes, etc)
3)  What could cause a bag to leak around the top / bottom?
4) My shocks have never been replaced (on back) 220k miles...could bad shocks contribute to airbag demise?

Last month I made a post called “Reflections of My first motorhome cruise” and would like to make an addition to it.


While we were together on that trip Ed related a story to me that was as painful to hear as it was joyful in its conculision.  I will leave a lot out of the story because its personal to Ed and his family but I know this is not a story unique to Ed!  He told me of other RV-er’s they met along the way with wonderful stories of their own.  This is Ed’s story but I know its a story of many!


His wife had been very sick for many years and between doctors, medications and the sickness itself her life was one of pain and little eles.  She never left home except for trips to the doctors and stays in the hospital.  He explained it as one day of sadness, suffering and bad news one day after the other with nothing else in site!


He told me how he would try to cook the things she liked but there were few times she could eat it.  Slowly but surly the woman he met in the 6th grade who he’d been married to for 52 years had little time left!  He felt helpless and worthless because there was nothing he could do but watch her get worse and worse!


One afternoon he was having his car serviced and as many of us do, picked up a magazine and starting thumbing through it!  He told me how he was flipping through a couple car magazines and picked up a boat magazine.  He was flipping through it and said to himself “that wouldn’t make it to the Grand Canyon”, the place they planned to go before she got sick...


He went to put the boat magazine down when he noticed a motorhome magazine under it and his mind exploded with “that will get us to the Grand Canyon”!  Twenty days later he told me how he pulled up in the motorhome, loaded up their things and carried his wife to the coach and laid her down on the couch.  A few days later they were looking into the Grand Canyon!


All the professionals offered his wife little chance to live and told her to get her things in order!  Now five years later, she’s packing up their home on wheels for their next adventure, the sickness is a thing of the past!  He said it was no overnight success for her, not by any means, she was very sick.  He just new he had to get her out of what was day after day of nothing but bad to worse news, to something new, different and exciting!


After about a month she was up more, eating more and laughing more!  After three months the transformation was in a word, incredible!  I’ll not soon forget the way Ed looked when he said  “I’d forgotten she could laugh, I didn’t know either of us could do that anymore”!


There are three things Ed says saved his wife, the grace of God the kindness of people along the way and the motorhome!

I am changing out my Yamaha receiver in my coach and I have a Yamaha manual and remote I will be happy to mail to anyone who might need one.  The manual is for the RX-V492 and RX-V392 receiver and the remote.

Jan 13 approximately 2:30 pm  We were headed westbound on I-40 near mile marker 126. I got a glimpse of a Late model Newell towing a 4 door Jeep Wrangler headed east. The east and west lanes were separated by 3-400 yards of tumbleweed and we were traveling at 80 mph so I was not able to get a VIN number, Michael 

i did my saturday morning jaunt to the local flea market this morning and found this hammer.  dont know what i would use it for but for 2 bucks it was a cool find.  it is really old and really well used.

any ideas what it was meant for?

The dirt road where I store my coach is badly damaged and is uneven to the point that my coach will drag when in travel mode.  Not a problem for a car with a shorter wheel base.  If I raise the coach to the maximum height to slowly exit this road, can I damage the coach from the twisting caused by the uneven road when the air bags are inflated fully?

I ran across this DVM in Lowes the other day for 120 bucks. I know it's not a Fluke, but it does have AC and DC current sensing which is unusual for a meter of this price. It also has a temp sensor probe. And the ability to measure capacitors (i.e. motor start caps), and diodes.

Although I have (wait I ain't tellin the actual number) of voltmeters, I didn't have one with DC current. So, of course it made it's way into the buggy.  I thought this was a really neat tool to keep on the Newell.
