Hank called it. Freezer off kills the whole shebang. BTW, I confirmed this by turning off the fridge this morning.
If it is an Amana, there is no reset on the compressor. There is a thermal overload in the compressor which automatically resets. If you think this is happening, watch you amp meters carefully when you first turn the fridge on, one of them will spike, the compressor will hum loudly, and then stop. The amp meter will go down when it stops.
