1983 Newell 40' Classic $5,000
All "Reasonable Offers" will gladly be discussed.
We fulltimed 21 years in this quality coach. Unfortunately, due to engine problems, we have decided to sell our Newell.
The Newell Classic is located in Oxnard California. There is coolant in the engine oil of the Detroit 6V-T92TA. It will probably require a new head gasket or new engine head to repair (nothing has been torn apart to determine actual repairs/replacement needed.)
The Newell has: 261,371 miles. A Detroit 6V-T92TA turbo and aftercooled diesel. A brand new $4,000 radiator replacement. An Allison 5 speed automatic transmission. All riveted aluminum sides and roof. Set up to live fulltime inside.
We are disappointed to sell our Newell Classic. Please reply with your phone # and I will call you. All "Reasonable Offers" will gladly be discussed.
Thank you,
George

Hello all, I've decided to replace all the air bags on my 1996 coach. I was wondering if anyone had the part numbers handy for all axles? I have the solid front axle if that helps. Thank you so much in advance. I have searched thru the forums here and I havent been able to find anything for a solid axle coach.
Hi all!
Not sure where to ask this question so I put it here. I am getting ready to purchase my first coach and in NYS you need an “R” endorsement on your license to drive an RV over 40’ and over 26,000lbs. Applying for it and getting the learners permit is easy, only a written test. However, a driving test is required and you must have someone’s who already has the endorsement with you.
Does anyone live in New York and have this endorsement? Or any information on how to go about getting this endorsement on my license?
Thanks
Morgan Baron

i thought i was a pretty good internet searcher, and i know i have seen these things somewhere.
the clear acrylic dinette table support leg that is put in when the table is extended.
besides newell, does anyone know where to buy these clear acrylic legs?
thanks

Thanks for letting me join the forum! My husband and I have been researching RVs for about four years as our retirement travel plan. We both retired at the end of 2017 but are still in transition as we have one house to sell (currently on the market) and a vacation condo that we may or may not wish to keep as our base.
Last summer we pulled the trigger on a new Class B motorhome just to get our feet wet and get on the road enjoying the country. We love the flexibility of the small size, we can stop and park anywhere (it's actually our daily driver as well!) and if we feel the urge, can also pull into a hotel parking lot and get a hotel room for a night.
However, if we decide to go full time and give up on having any type of fixed home, we will need something bigger. We have considered everything from an Airstream travel trailer to a new Tiffin or Newmar Class A (gas or diesel) to a used Newell, Prevost or Foretravel.
We are extremely concerned about quality which is what has brought us to looking at Newell and Prevost, but are also concerned about the ongoing maintenance and repair costs of them, considering we would need to be looking at around 10 years old.
We also enjoy traveling spontaneously and without reservations, so are unsure how that would work if we get a bigger rig.
I've read a lot of the threads already and look forward to learning more, particularly what to watch for as we consider various used rigs.

Gurus,
Many of us have Hunter Douglas electric blinds in our coaches. These use Somfy motors to raise and lower the blinds. On my coach, the shade in the front window is not made by HD but also uses a Somfy DC electric motor. You can tell a Somfy motor by the yellow and black limit switches that are on one end of the shade. (Yellow for Up, and Black for Down)
Today, I was messing with setting the limit switches on my front shade and one of them stuck. (Aw shucks!).
I happened to have a couple of old motors, so I took one apart to see why it was binding. First, I messed with my sacrificial motor and got one of the switches bound up (stuck in depressed position).
I tried prying on the sides of the switch. I tried tapping on the switch. I tried contact cleaner. Nope. Nothing worked.
Then I pressed extra hard on the switch and it bounced back. It turns out that there is a kind of latching mechanism inside the switch. Pressing extra hard released the latch and the switch returned to normal position.
I tried the technique on the front shade and it worked!
I am posting in the hope of keeping someone from buying a new motor because they think they broke the limit switch.
Cheers,
bill

I wish any Newell I was interested was near Newell's HQ...
But they never seem to be. So, if we were interested in a coach, I would want to have an inspector who is very (VERY) familiar with Newells to conduct the inspection. But how?
Most of the coaches are in CA, but they have popped up in other areas. A doubt a seller would let me tie up a coach for very long to get someone in to inspect.
Suggestions???

Forum: Discussion about what to consider on buying a used Newell
- Replies (15)
Hi all! I am new to the forum even though I joined a while ago as I’ve only made one post and and have been lurking and learning since. Here’s my dilemma. I am just about ready to purchase my first coach, it will be a used coach. I have narrowed my choices down and although never thought I would find a Newell that I can afford or want, I have. My first possibility is a 1990 Newell with low miles, under 70kmiles. It’s 42 ft long and was stored indoors until last year.
The other choice is a 1999 foretravel u320. 42 ft with a tag axle. Inside has been renovated with new floors, rug, and furniture. Also has new parts like new a/c units up top and new airbags all around. Has about 150k miles, outside shows wear comensurate with miles and with being in the weather but seems to be in good shape and maintained.
I know there are many variables but I would appreciate opinions on which would be a better coach (I realize they may be biased).
Thanks
Morgan Baron
