Forum: Air Operated Systems and Leaks

Gang,

I learned something today that I thought I would share.  In my coach, the differential "lock up" air solenoid is located on the firewall above the engine batteries.  On some coaches (around the 2003 vintage) the solenoid housing is mounted with the "out" port on the top.

As you go down the road, grit and dust find their way into port and if you ever use the lock-up function the grit falls into the valve body and this can cause a HUGE air leak.  (ask me how I know this!)

Check your coach for the housing mounted upside down.  (Out port is up).  If so, you should clean out the port and then remount the housing with out port on the bottom.  (Don't mix up the air lines).

I'm wasn't sure where to put this so moderators please move if needed.

We just lost a good friend, Mike Murray.

Mike and Lori bought the MC7 bus conversion we had two coaches ago. Lori called me Saturday and said Mike had been killed while riding his Harley. They were just finishing up the details to go fulltiming next month. What a shock! She was so distraught I had trouble getting the details but, from what I could understand, Mike was following a car that stopped suddenly. The car behind Mike did not stop. You bikers PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! The idiots are everywhere! That is another reason I like to drive the biggest, toughest thing I can. If someone hits me (or I hit them) I want to walk away...

As an aside, Lori cannot bear to see the bus because it reminds her of Mike and their dream. I know everyone on this board is a Newell fan but if anyone knows of someone looking for a bus conversion, please give them my info. I think somebody will get a nice coach cheap.

Secondly, those of us who have coaches and are the primary (only) driver/caretaker, should probably have a discussion with our significant other as to what happens if the worst happens. The surviving party should know where important resources are and how to access them. Lori doesn't have a clue what to do with the coach, how to access the bus boards Mike belonged to, or how to go about dealing with not only the coach, but other important matters that Mike usually handled. I am reviewing my business with my wife in light of this. Perhaps this unfortunate accident will keep others from having problems during difficult circumstances.

Hello ! I was able to source the small gas shocks used on the interior cabinets, but not hinges.  I am not picky about finish color, but would like to use the same substantial design that Newell used if possible.

Anyone have a source for these? Huh

We normally don't watch a lot of TV. Today as we monitored Irma, I guess we had it on for several hours when a blower fan came on that I had never heard before. I tracked it down behind the TV. I guess it is to ventilate excess heat from the original 42' plasma monitor ( you know the boat anchor mounted above the driver and passenger seats). It took about an hour for the thing to shut off. I was about to pop the breaker for the entertainment area when it finally went off. Are there any other controls besides the temperature switch that turned it on-off?

I suspect this would not be needed with a current TV?
