Hello All,
The first major purchase my wife (Lisa) and I made after getting married 38+ years ago was a travel trailer, followed soon by a Winnebago motorhome. We have been motorhome owners for over 35 years with everything from a Fleetwood Tioga Class C to a BlueBird LXi 450. Currently we are still working and hoping to retire, or at least semi-retire in the coming months. We have a 2017 Haulmark Status 45DB motorcoach, but miss the class A room and are thinking about a change again. I have determined that it will be a used (due to budget) Newell, Provost conversion or possibly a Foretravel IH45. Leaning heavy towards the Newell due to the reputation of lasting "forever".
I have been lurking on the Gurus site for a couple of years and really enjoy learning about the coaches. We will probably be looking for something less than 15 years old - Lisa likes 4 slides and a lot of room - but I am mechanical and love to find ways to fix things and make them better. I think this site is one of the best.
I look forward to chatting with you all and hope to make it to a Not a Rally Rally some day in the coming year or two.
Thank you,
Dan Child

We are the owners of 511. This is our second Newell, the first being a 1984 classic. The info we have found on this site has been a huge help on various repairs. We will try to return a little knowlege in the future. We just wanted to say hey and see you at Bella Terra this week. We will be in site 301 from 4/30-5/9
I recently had my salon slide valance off and noticed how close the slide hook was coming to hitting right against the frame. After pondering
a bit, I decided to build an insert with ramp to guide the hook in place. A local sheet metal fabrication shop was the ticket and $40 later this is what I have.
I also injected epoxy into the cavity to hold the piece in place. Prior to epoxy I sprayed foam in so the epoxy would not flow all the way down the tube.
(Sorry about the pic's being rotated I cannot figure out how to get them uploaded correctly)

What do you use for UPS in your home while you’re away? My routers and cameras keep disconnecting when I am away from home for extended periods. I want something that will keep the cameras up when the power goes out (which it does often but not for very long). I was thinking about an internet-available UPS system since if the power is out the cable generally works and I can plug the router, cable modem, Wink hub, Phillips Hue hub, etc. to the UPS. Maybe I need to add a UPS to each camera for if the power goes out (I can imagine a thief killing the power or cutting the cable internet at the street)...
Maybe I need a cellular backup system also...

So I replaced my square D switch and it cycles every few seconds. Compressor turns on and off are there check valves in the system when it shuts off the blow off valve opens and release pressure for a few seconds

I am a 2010 Tiffin Allegro Bus owner that is getting the upgrade fever. Friends have had Newell's so am leaning that way.

My coach is a 1995 with a 60 series DD
On the way home from our last trip the amp gauge
Stopped showing a charge. I thought the alternator
Has failed.
I went to the coach to test/remove BUT when I started the
Engine the gauge jumped up to 50 amps
Any ideas on what is going on????

I had to replace one of the hoses that run to the Hydrualic Fluid Cooler tucked away above the drive axle. Here are some useful bits of info in case a future searcher needs to work in this area.
The hydraulic fluid used for the fan motor and steering gear box is ATF automatic transmission fluid, not tractor hydraulic oil.
I had a weeping hose, which makes a greasy mess by the way, caused because the hose was touching the top of the differential. The touch point eventually made a weak place in the hose. The point is to get under the coach, with proper support of course, and look for potential chafe points BEFORE you have to deal with a leaking hose.
The hose connections are on top of the cooler, you can barely see them, much less access them with a 1 1/2 wrench to take them loose. The solution is to drop the cooler down out of it's cubby hole. The brackets that hold the cooler are held to the frame with four nutted bolts. You don't have to take the cooler loose from the brackets as I mistakenly did. Put a floor jack under the cooler to support it's weight. I guess it weighs around 150 lbs. Lower it and then lay it on it's side to access the fittings. There was enough slack in the two hoses to do this on my rig.
Put a collection tub under the cooler before you take the fitting completely loose. I collected about four gallons of ATF that would have spilled otherwise.
There are MANY places where the hose is zip tied before it gets to it's other end. Of course it won't budge until every one of them is clipped.
NAPA is not the most cost efficient place to have a large hose made. Trust me.
Did I say nasty and greasy from the leak? Have you ever washed your hair with gojo? It was that or Rhonda spanking me for ruining a pillow case.
Here is the real pearl to store away in the memory chips. If you have ever changed the forward airbags on the drive axle, you know the space is impossible cause the aforementioned oil cooler and hoses are occupying the space where you need to put yourself and wrenches. In hindsight, 10 minutes to drop the cooler would have saved hours of work on replacing the forward airbags.
