Tom McCloud & Bill Appel's old coach was featured in May 2018 issue of MotorHome magazine. New owners are Ted & Laura Jenkins.

Hello all, my husband and I are new to this forum and excited to be here. We have been introduced to a #505, 1999 Newell at MOT this morning and thinking seriously about becoming a Newell owner! Does anyone know this one? Can anyone give us the history on this #505? Thanks.

Greetings all,
Now that things are mostly assembled, mostly working, and we are a few days away from becoming full time RVers again, I wanted to start a thread to document some of the electrical rejigging I have been undertaking in coach 1234, a.k.a. "the Enterprise."
I basically decided I wanted a new hobby for 2017 and 2018, so I started designing and procuring this system last summer. It uses 96 LiFEPO4 (hereinafter "LFP") cells connected in six paralleled, sixteen-cell strings. Each string has about 5kWh of energy storage, making a total pack of about 31kWh, or as I like to say to folks, "about half a Tesla."
Here are some of the cells on my test bench, getting balanced, prior to installation:
And here is a "string" of 16 cells getting prepped to go in the battery tray.

I had to remove and modify the tray to get about an extra inch of clearance on the lower trays, versus the Newell stock 8DLs we know and love.

Hey all,
I've almost completely replaced every bit of functionality on my Silverleaf house system ("TCS") now, except for the autofill. There is another thread on autofill in this forum, but I skimmed it and didn't see discussion of what I am looking for, so I thought I'd start a fresh topic.
In looking at the schematic for the Silverleaf TM102, it has a "fill switch" input wire and a "fill valve" output wire documented. My galley Silverleaf panel/computer has a menu option to engage the "auto fill", which fills the tank most of the way and then shuts off.
Does anyone know how Silverleaf interacts with these wires, and how these wires interact with the filling system downstream? I know, I should go trace the wires and figure it out myself... but I thought I would accelerate the process here since I bet some of you know it by heart.
Thanks,
Ben

Finally got my shop air compressor hooked up.
Was very xcited to be able to air up the coach prior to starting engine.
Would be nice to be able to open the door.
Well not so fast!
Air hose connected but no air goes into coach?.
Is there a valve somewhere that I am not aware of??

After 15 years of motorhoming I finally got my dream coach.Newell 1267.
Looking forward to being part of the guru’s.

My wife and I are considering putting our beloved '89 Coach up for sale, and would like to know if there is any interest out there. We have just moved into a year-round home in Northern Maine, and we believe that our long-term road trips may be at an end. It might be time for someone else to enjoy our coach. We purchased it used, at the factory in 2003, and are its second owners. We lived in the coach full time for the better part of ten years. Throughout this period, we have spent a minimum of 7 months a year in the coach; so it has been our home.
Ever since our purchase, we have maintained the coach at the Newell factory on an almost annual basis. We have had the engine and transmission maintained by a Detroit Diesel dealer. We have also taken it to a suspension and frame shop (Tampa Spring), almost yearly for the past 6 or 7 years for preventative maintenance. Over the past 14 years of our ownership, we have authorized virtually all repairs and services recommended by these experts. Newell technicians have told us that it is in remarkably good condition. It runs well, and is a true joy to travel in.
The coach was a show coach in 1989, and the last of the Classic breed. It is 102" wide, 40 ft long. Engine is the original Detroit 8V92T: a clean one that doesn't leak oil. Total mileage is about 240,000 miles. The Allison transmission was rebuilt by Detroit Diesel in 2007. The coach features a YanMar 12KW diesel generator. Tankage is 375 gal diesel, 110 gal fresh water, 120 gal black. There are two joey beds in the basement, an 18' Zip Dee patio awning and four window awnings. Tires (24.5" - 6 Michelin, 2 Bridgestone on Tag): four are 4 yrs old, three are 5 yrs old, and one is 6 yrs old: all with good tread.
The interior is white formica. The front salon includes a Villa leather couch (2009), a dinette, bookcase, file drawers, and a leather Euro chair and ottoman (2009). Kitchen is spacious. The bathroom is mid coach, and is about 8' X 8'. The queen bed is in the rear. The coach has a Splendid washer/dryer (2003). Everything is in full working order.
The coach is cooled by three basement split air conditions which Newell can service. For heating, in addition to numerous electric heaters, Newell just installed three new Atwood furnaces to replace the original Suburbans.
The coach features full air suspension and levelling. Weighing about 40,000 lbs loaded, it is fast in acceleration, it cruises easily at 70-75 MPH, and it rides on a cloud.
We are located on a lake in Northern Maine, and our coach is here with us, in our heated barn. It is available for a visit now, and we expect to drive it to Washington DC in early May.
We have owned two Newells over a total of 25 years, and have greatly enjoyed the quality that was built in and the committment to quality and friendliness of the outstanding people at the Newell factory. Things work better in our coach today than they do in many new coaches we visit on the sales lots. We aren't yet sure that we want to make this move at all; but it will help to know whether we can find a good home for our coach.
All photos were taken over the last year.
You can contact us at [email protected], or by our home phone at (207)965-8438, or on our cell phone (703)469-1834.
