Forum: Replacement part information
- Replies (5)

Hello everyone I'm looking for a front left fender flair for a 1990 coach number 226

Surely there are a couple retired coaches that have a good one as mine came off on the way home from purchasing her and Newell wants a fortune to make me a new one

Thanks Chase

when I had my blow out last week it took out the docking lights above the wheel. Was getting ready to rewire /replace them I remembered I had some Led strip lights that were yellow and white about 3 feet long. I spliced into the wires for the existing lights.. the results were awesome with a lot more light. And cooler looking to boot. I have 2 more I am going to place them under the headlights and hook the headlights to it for the white and the turn signals to it for the yellows. I Hate our headlights I Am hoping these belong solve the issue.. If this fails to help  I have a  light bar.. I may mount it between the headlights..

I've said time and again on this site that diesel fuel additives are a waste of money. I may have to alter my view a bit in light of recent events.

Since losing my wife to cancer I've been gradually reducing the inventory of "stuff" accumulated over the years. In the garage were a few quarts of transmission fluid that weren't going anywhere. Rather than take them to the recycling center I decided to dump them in the Newell's main fuel tank.

On the first leg of the trip it seemed I was seeing higher fuel mileage reported on the VMSpc and the FuelPro on the dash inched up slightly from 5.35. Before returning home I dumped 2 more quarts of transmission fluid in a full tank of diesel and on the trip home it seemed the VMSpc was generally reporting higher numbers, The FuelPro ended up at 5.83. It has always hovered around 5.35.

There is not enough volume of btu's in 2 quarts to make this difference. My GUESS is that the fluid is doing some kind of cleaning that doesn't happen with ordinary fuel that impacts my fuel mileage. My inclination is that eventually this rise will level off and the mileage will stay at that level even if I quit adding the fluid. It's either that or magic. I'll confirm this when I refill the tank.

So, if confirmed, this experience suggests there may be occasions when adding something to the fuel for a period could be beneficial. CAW, CAW! Why are all the crows scattering?

BTW: I've had a goal recently to get my fuel mileage up to more than 7 from the 6.7 I've experienced since I bought the coach. If the figures I've just seen are reflected in further reality then that goal will need to be revised upwards since it will be already exceeded. What good is a goal without some stretch in it?

So, I flew out to Phoenix this week to pick up 540 and drive her home to Tennessee. Had Leo swap coolant and replace tag and drive bags as preventative maintenance, did some other coach related errands and then headed to Camp McCloud who truly know the meaning of hospitality.

Made it to Gallup uneventfully and had a nice day getting comfortable driving.

And then today.

I should have known to stay put when I woke up to no water pressure. No sign of life from the headhunter, it seemd to have committed seppuku in the middle of the night. No vital signs. But I figured I had an aux pump so I'd worry about it later.

Four miles West of Cline's Corner and the klaxon starts sounding from the Silverleaf. Water temp is 218. Immediately pull onto the shoulder and shutdown, figuring maybe somehow the draincock wasn't closed all the way from the coolant swap. Nope - CRS sight glass has it right in the middle. Look over to the hydraulic fan and I am sutprised to see that the fan blade and the hydraulic motor spindle have decided to part ways. I can't even see a keyway on the shaft nor feel one on the far side. The hole in the blade looks like the keyway has been ground through. These are definitely the shiniest parts in the bay right now. Pics might be sideways, couldn't prerotate them from my phone.

Coachnet wants to tow it and Newell says it probably isn't a roadside job but I really don't want to tow.

Luckily Tom and Richard gave been speaking and recommend letting it cool a bit and then seeing how far I can get before the temp gets critical again. Ah, memories of childhood and a 14 hour stop and go drive to go 120 miles in an overheating 1984 Thunderbird. But this time I have AC, a couch and a fridge!

Luckily I make it 20 miles before getting to 218/220 again. Waited for 180 again and then made another 20 miles.

Hopefully one more leg will get me the last 22 miles to Santa Ross where theres a 24 hour shop and a few campgrounds.

More to come.... But probably slowly....

hi gurus,

one of our own (not me) is on I40 east near clines corners nm  with the radiator cooling fan that has come off of the hydraulic motor.

it appears the bolt holding the fan on became loose and the fan spun on the shaft obliterating the half moon shaft key and when the bolt finally came out the fan just came off into the shroud.

he is working on getting to santa rosa where there are a few truck repair places.

question is this.  have any of you ever had to replace the fan or the center section of the fan where the shaft hole is and also the shaft on the motor?  if so do you have part numbers and or where to get it?  he is also calling newell, but for right now they are just telling him to get to a repair facility.

thanks

tom

I was replacing the number one ac , it's a dometic and what was suppose to be a 2 hour ordeal turned into 6 weeks.. I ordered a dometic penguin 2 roof air. Because my coach was older I still had a 5 button  thermostat and that requires a different circuit board. So I ordered it too. Newell was extremely backed up and I couldn't get in so 6 weeks ago I went to a local rv dealer who was Dometic certified. They said it was a 2 hour job. I said go for it. Well after installation it wouldn't work ,either the fan would run or the compressor but not both.. after 2 hours of troubleshooting and several calls to dometic it was determined the replacement board was the incorrect one. Order new board takes them a week to get here.. installed the new board and 2 hours later it still doesn't work.. same problem fan or compressor not both .dometic says we must have a bad airconditioner . Will send a new one but it will take a week. Check in with dealer the following week. They don't have it checked with dometic. They forgot to send it.. will send the next day be another week.  The following week shipment arrives. Dometic decided it was the fan motor . Replace it.. still doesn't work.. same result fan or compressor call back to dometic and now they decide they will ship me a new ac and And a new board. Was suppose to be in 2 days later. 2 days later it gets "lost" shows up 3 days after that. Dometic has them bench check the new ac unit with the new board. They test it still the same problem. Call dometic again. Get a different tech. He suggests cutting the yellow wire. Not sure what the yellow wire attaches to but all of the sudden it works. Rip the old ac off put the new one they bench tested on and we are good to go.  The rv dealer is beyond miffed at dometic.. they had about 12 hours in it and none of the instructions that come with the boards detailing the replacement or all of the times calling dometic dealer support had ever mentioned cutting the yellow wire..    so the moral of the story if something seems not quite right. Always cut the yellow wire ...lol

I have been looking exclusively at '00 and '01 and '02 models, but when looking I have forgotten each time to measure the bay dimensions. I have a couple storage items such as a mountain bike and a tool box that I would like to mount in the bays.  In each that I have looked at I would have what seems like one full width bay with slide and one of the smaller width bay.  If someone happens to have the dimensions (width and height) I would be very appreciative.
