Stopped by to say hello to Leo and see what was going on in the shop today. They were installing a temporary wrap on one of the All Aboard America buses for the weekend. These guys were doing an amazing job. Takes them about 8 hours to skin a bus.

Own Coach 1665, 2020 Newell.  I’ve noticed very weak performance on my Jake Brake at low and especially high range.  Any thoughts, suggestions or helps / ideas?

Looking for some trouble shooting advice. Drove our coach a few miles and returned home and parked it in the driveway to wash it. While washing it I heard an alarm inside (This coach has (2) Prosine 3.0 inverters) I found one with a 195 code on the display and the other saying low batteries. I tried to start it but the batteries were to low,
so I plugged it in and it started right up. I moved it behind our gate and plugged in for the night and checked on it in the morning. I figured the batteries would be all charged up and ready to go. Nope... Batteries weren't charged. I reset the inverters plugged it back in and let it sit for awhile, still not, charging so I put it on a battery charger and checked on it hours later. One inverter started up then went back to code 195 the other said the battery was at 12.8 volts. It showed shore power was connected and was charging. I did notice that it said +0.0 on the display but normally when its charging, it has some volts to it depending on how drained the batteries are. I thought its on so it should be good, came out this morning batteries are dead and both inverters are shut down with solid red lights on them.
Any idea where to start? I haven't had any problems before with charging or the inverters.

We are no strangers to weather change here in the Ozarks but this breaks all the records for us, they are talking -35F wind chill factors are possible, I've blew down all the water lines and drained the water tank in the coach and put antifreeze in the holding tank. I hope the compressor will hold up in these temperatures. I'm going to the auto parts store this morning and get a antifreeze tester for the Detroit and generator. Anything else you can think of?

The old Amana refrigerator worked but the amp meter jumped every time it came on, we are working on going with more energy efficient units so we can get to coach to work off the sun without running the generator. The new unit is quite and the amp meter barely moves when its running, its much smaller than the Amana but we are not full timers and its perfect for my wife and I. With the left over front panels from the Amana we filled in the sides to make it look good, the panels were a little short but we patched it at the bottom and suits us, the right hand side has a 7" door where the vacuum hose can go or what ever. I used the bidirectional swing door hinge to make a door lock while underway, I printed up the lock and down the road will weld up an aluminum one.

First, it’s Bill’s fault for starting this thread. I thought it was a great suggestion. I have seen other hacks gurus have done, so I expect this to be a thread with great content. 

Here are a few of mine. 

I wanted to diagram the big 12V positive cables that run all over the coach. But I didn’t have a fancy fox and hound cable signal tracer. I unhooked all the big cables where I could find them. I made a long wire with alligator clips at each end. I would clip the wire to one of the cables I wanted to trace and start with the Ohm meter at other cable terminations. When the ohms read zero, I had found the other end of the cable. I labeled them on both ends of course, because I have a hard time remembering breakfast. 

I have used the capacitor reading on the VOM to check the AC capacitors in place. Do turn off the power, and short the terminals of the cap before doing this. Unhook the connections to get a true reading. 

I have used the ohm reading to check the windings in electrical motors or compressors before tearing out a unit on the suspicion the compressor was bad. 

A common one is to use the voltmeter to see if a charger or alternator is charging a battery bank. Measure with charger off or disabled, then turn on charger, voltage should increase a bit. 

And finally, and this is what Brad Aden posted, but my version. I also had a bizarre HWH control board problem. It went back to them three times, would work for a month or two, then back to wacky behavior. I was checking continuity of fuses on the board, and of course the fuses tested just fine. Only when I tested voltage at both side of the fuse did I discover that the fuse blades had oxidized, and the fuse was only passing about 6 volts instead of 12.

I now know I am not the only one that has experienced this salon slide alignment problem.  That, however, did not make it any less annoying.  I put a lot of energy and money into fixing that problem and never succeeded.  You may think selling the coach was a bit extreme - ha ha.   Anyway, let's backup a little and if you keep reading I promise I will get to the part where there is a fix I believe will work.

I travel mostly alone and this problem is a bit worse for anyone single handing.  In my case the front corner of the slide would come in too far.  So far, the locking pin was beyond the mating hole and in danger of ventilating the top of the slide roof.  Within a couple years of ownership I was so frustrated I drove the coach to Miami, OK and had the pros work on the problem.  They had seen that problem before and had a method that involved "bending" the slide back into square.   It was pretty scary, but when completed the slide would properly lock in place.  Unfortunately that only lasted a few months and it was back to coming in too far again.  A call to the factory resulted in "if you bring it back we will try again, no charge".   So another two day trip one way and more work and again it locked in place.  And, yes, another couple months and it was coming in too far again. Grrrrrr    I was no longer interested in another trip west, so I embarked on methods that I alone could use to get it locked.  There were about three iterations with the final one being an electric linear motor I would place between the two columns ( one on each side of the room ) and push the room out enough to get it to lock.  This was a time consuming process, but worked and I could live with it.

I am aware that others with a traveling partner have been able to push the slide out as their partner pushes the retract button and get it to lock.    If that works for you that could be an acceptable workaround.

Another workaround I have heard mentioned is to just stop the retraction process before the pin tries to lock.   This leaves the slide in too far and kind of ugly, but when the slide seal inflates it is probably not going anywhere.

When at Richard's recently he said he had seen in person and online a bracket that was attached to the outside of the slide in the upper corner that would inhibit the slide from going beyond flush with the side of the coach.   Fascinated after all I had been through he was able to show me the picture I have included with this post.  Although not hi resolution, you can easily get the idea.  With that bracket in place it will stop movement in of the top while the bottom completes retracting and touches the limit switch.  And I don't think it looks bad at all.  If I still had my coach I would be on the hunt for that bracket.  It looks cast and like it might have been made for the purpose.   So if anyone reading the thread can chime in about a source it would be very much appreciated.  Even if the casting can't be found it seems to me that a nice plate could be fabricated and even painted to make a very workable fix for this particular problem.  Also, if you happen to know of the root cause for the top coming in too far please post about that.  I am guessing that whatever the root cause happens to be, the fix is going to be a lot more complicated than the addition of a stopping bracket.
