I was under the Newell chasing air leaks when I noticed a distinct gurgling sound in the transmission pan. It sounds like air leaking into the fluid and bubbling. I can feel it when I touch the pan. So far I have found nothing on the web regarding this. Any ideas from my fellow Gurus?
we have a local guru that rolled a front slide seal. he is not living in it and it is in storage so once it cools down, he will bring his coach out to wittmann and we will put his slide seal back in. it is a 3 year old seal so we are very hopeful we can just take the slide out and reglue the seal back in. nonetheless, the process is the same as putting a new seal in.
we plan on doing it once the temps are down in the comfortable range. we will use the slide cart and go through the entire process. so probably in october/november time frame.
anyone that would like to join us to help and watch are welcome. the more the merrier. we should hopefully be able to complete it in a single day. extra pairs of hands are useful.
let me know if you are interested in coming.

I've been hanging around the site since I joined in June. We purchased our first Newell #472 in July this year. Now that we've had the coach for 30 days, I'm ready to share my experience.
The Newell is our fourth coach. We started in 1999 with a used gas Allegro and decided we liked rving. In 2001 we purchased a new 36' diesel Travel Supreme and enjoyed it for 11 years. In 2012 we purchased a 2006 Travel Supreme Select and thought we were in hog heaven. We decided this year life is too short and why leave it to the kids! So, we decided to purchase #1472 and OMG! We've always heard the stories and thought, "year, really?" The comfort level of the drive is a definite improvement and the quietness inside when driving is remarkably improved. No more wind noise or rattling of the slides. I don't fee as much transfer of movement from the road in the steering wheel when I drive now. It's simply a better driving experience. Also, the active tag axle sure makes backing up a lot easier.
Once at the campground the setup and tear down is easier with the Newell. The functions are basically the same, it's just not as labor intensive with the Newell. In previous coaches the deployment of the slides was not difficult but the noises they made caused you to wonder if they were going to make it. With the Newell the drop-down floor and smoothness of the extension/retraction process is very nice. And, with the Newell we no longer have the deployment process of the jacks! Very nice! Although the size is comparable to the TSS the inside living area is roomier. I'm guessing due to the deeper curbside slides and the floor plan. And, I'm guessing the huge windows provide the illusion you're in a bigger environment. Once again, the height of both coaches is the same, but the Newell had more head room. During my purchasing decision I was impressed with the easy access to the various components. Considering in the past I performed a variety of repairs when on the road it's nice o have accessibility for performing the repairs. On past coaches getting to the various repairs was a challenge at times. I did give up a little bay area storage, but I still managed to organize he Newell's bays to get my required items in them.
Really, the list of "dang this is nice" can go on and on, so I don't want to elaborate on everything. Suffice to say, the wife and I re very pleased with our purchase. Yes, all the little things add up, so the cost of the Newell is quite a bit more, but the level of enjoyment has gone up too. An, now when I have those repairs to do, I don't have to search the internet and formulate a plan f action. I can call the 24/7 service support line and be directed where to do what. That'll be nice to have that knowledge available for the inevitable repair that will be needed at the least opportune time. To date my overall Newell experience has been great. I'm hoping the experience continues for years to come!
What are you full timers using for insurance for your Newell? Been checking around and here seems to be few company’s that offer coverage. I can currently have Progressive and would like some other options. Your thoughts and comments appreciated.
Our Perkins genny shut down due to over heating. We now know that the Murphy Switch protection system works, even after 36 years. After a good look at the generator system, which I really have not done in 4 years of ownership, I found some things that confuse me. There are some modifications that were done a long long time ago judginging by rust and debris. I know the previous owner well, and am sure that these mods were done before he bought the coach.
The 3/4 120 volt blower motor had blown fuse protection installed (inline) on the incoming hot and common wires about 6 inches from the motor. They are standard automotive 30 amp 30 volt ? Yes 30 volt rated fast acting blade fuses.
Motor was non op due to the pinching of the 120v lead on the motor frame. Perhaps that was why a prevoius owner had installed fuses on the motor?
The belt pully has been stressed and broken. Before removal I checked belt alignment and it was good, there was no side load. The photo makes it look as though it is not in alignment, but it is right on. I had noticed cracks in the pully a year ago.
There is no way to adust belt tension. The motor base holes are not slotted.
The base area of the cabinet has been cut out with a torch at some time in the past. Maybe to let the air horns mounted inside to be heard?
The motor had a lot of road debris around it from the hole cut in the floor area Doesn't this stop the cooling process the same as leaving the cabinet door open ?
Can one of you Classic guys post pictures of your genny cabinet?
Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
We are bringing our coach to the Newell factory on Sept 2nd to have some work done and want to know what there is to see and do in the area and also if anyone else is going to be there at that time. We are driving from western NC and plan on taking a few days to get there and open for where to go after we leave, thinking of heading out west.

I guess this is as good a place to post this as any I can find, so here goes...
As we have shared we are in the "research" phase of our purchase and will be doing so within the next 18 months. We've seen coaches advertised in multiple locations, several websites, privately, etc. Once we narrow the search to a couple that would fit the bill and it comes down to finances, what is the accepted protocol in making an offer? What is a generally accepted or anticipated number for an offer...example being if I find the right coach listed at $300k...would an offer of $275k be reasonable? I certainly don't want to offend someone, just wondering how I should approach this. Having purchased several new vehicles over the years, I have a good feel for what is reasonable and what isn't in that arena, but this will be our first purchase like this.

I have a 1997 #443. Currently we have all 3 breakers turned off for the air conditioning system repairs. Just noticed the bathroom vanity lights over the mirrows will not turn on using the reastat control, nor will the lights over the sinks that use a on off rocker switch. All other lights in the bedroom and shower area work. The 20 amp fuse labeled shower and bath is good as those lights work. Not able to turn on the breakers at this time, but don't think that should matter as they are labeled for the 3 air conditioners in the bays.
Any ideas??
Interesting time lapse.
