There are four rubber mounts that mount the carriage to the coach that the Kohler genset rides on.  If these mounts degrade it will allow the whole assembly, including the genset, to slide out the front of the coach.

These are the mounts that Newell used:

The mount is a Lord 283P250.
It is in their catalog as a Plateform heavy duty vibration isolator.
Astrotex in Plano, TX carries the part. 972-424-8707. Price is $44 each x 4

I'm contemplating buying one of a couple of mid 80s coaches that have been sitting for a couple of years.
Basic and regular maintenance is said to have been preformed on both, as well as regular engine starting, but neither has been out on the road for a good while.
Besides the usual suspects (fluids, filters, belts, hoses, tires, and batteries)  what other chassis items might need attention after a long period of non-use?  Does/can  non use cause any of the components to degrade any faster than regular use? 
Knowing what to look for might eliminate at least a few surprises. I'm sure there will be plenty of those even with the best info and inspection.

The flexible exhaust hose running from the generator to the muffler has a hole in it. Does anyone know where to get a replacement? Picture of hose attached.

Ugh. This was one of those things that I was *REALLY* hoping not to have happen to us.

This is the ejecta from the powder inside of my slide seal when it blew yesterday.

   

We are currently far from Newell and no desire to drive thousands of miles to deal with this -- it's going to be expensive enough already. Of course, it couldn't have been the rear, raised slide, it had to be the flat floor slide.

I am wondering if anyone knows of any shops that have performed a flat floor seal replacement in Oregon or Washington.

I know Tom is building a platform to perform his own replacement at Camp McCloud. I'd love to combine efforts with him, but again -- thousands of miles of driving. And it's about to be August in Arizona! We were trying to get out of the heat wave that is currently Oregon.

I spoke with Creslie, and he said the only one he is familiar with who has done it outside of Newell is the shop in Mesa that I've seen mentioned here before (I forget the name now). His only other possible referral was a mobile tech in San Diego named Brian Miller.

We are currently in the land of Country Coach, Beaver Coach and Marathon, so I'm really hoping someone might know a shop in the region that could do the job.

Shortly before the last No Rally Rally, I pulled the release to my 20k Kohler to check fluids. Lo and behold, when I came around the front of the coach, the gen was dangling out the front with the  fiberglass cover 6 inches off the concrete. The only thing that stopped it from hitting the ground was the fully extended ram and as it tilted, the back of the valve cover hit the roof of the enclosure. Creslie at Newell said this has never happened before, so leave it to me to be the example.
The gen is mounted by four motor mounts to it's frame, the frame slides out along heavy duty rollers on it's carriage attached to the air powered ram on my "97 #458.
The four carriage mounts had all disintegrated and nothing was holding the whole assembly in it's housing but it's weight. As I extended the gen out, once it reached over center, out it came. The hard part was trying to stab the exhaust pipe back into the larger pipe that let's it telescope with the ram coming in or out. After days of trying, with a tractor, forklift, jacks, meditation, lack of anger management etc, I went inside and called Forest to tell him I was giving up and not coming to the rally. He talked me off the cliff and after a stint inside in the a/c, I figured I'd give it one more try. I then pulled the exhaust off the Kohler and found why I couldn't get the pipes to mesh. The end had bent as it was coming out of the pipe, as the gen was falling out. After reshaping the pipe and cleaning it, I coated it in anti-sieze. It was smooth sailing after that.

So for those that have the tv mounted "bubble" above the foot of the bed know its kinda cumbersome. ive hit my head on it more times then i can count, an i think im done with it. in the future if i want a tv i'll mount an led on the wall.

so the question is has anyone here removed their tv bubble? how large is the hole left in the ceiling? Looking for ideas on what to do with the hole it will leave when removed. an also the antenna raise lower handle hole. I already removed all the roof antennas an sealed an plated holes.

so what did you put over the once tv bubble? low profile ceiling light maybe? looking for ideas other then reupholstering the whole bedroom ceiling.....

New to the group, never owned a coach but one is needed to fulfill our quest to travel the country to see it before we can't. We prefer the mid entry E/W king bed configuration. Have researched and talked to Newell several times and have a grip on coaches selling thru RVT and the 2 main resellers in AZ and MI, both places have been very cordial. We get the feeling a sub culture group may have a finger on coaches for sale that are not being consigned. Any assistance would be appreciated. Rob

PS. Any suggestions on a coach to avoid is also welcome. We know of a couple already.

Anyone know where I might source the two long hangars for the muffler can?  I was going to try to find a place in Atlanta, GA next week to weld up mine or replace them.  
I did figure out that the muffler can be held in place temporarily using the BIG, long plastic Zip Tie wraps (got a bunch from Harbor Freight) - I was surprised they did not melt or break and we drove several hours with them.
