The Vacuum Gauge was starting to climb so I replaced the Air Filter today. 1982 6V92 Air Filter--Baldwin #PA 2722.
Posting this for others.
After months of work on the Newell we are off on our first trip.
We are leaving NC in the morning heading to Moscow, IA to see the fine people at HWH.
We checked the weather and looks we are going to see some snow.
New Tires, New Brakes, Oil Changed and Serviced, Waxed & Wheels Polished (I read on here that the coach runs better with wheels polished)
...now off to Iowa to get the HWH up to par.
We are excited!
Found this in my parking spot this afternoon. It appears to be a 1999 #522.

It is not mine but it was recently listed on RVtrader.
We're on the side of the road. Have a roadside tech here. We can't locate the fuse panel. We have tom McClouds old 236. If anyone can help, please call Laura and Ted Jenkins at 301-775-0640.
This information comes from an earlier repair but wanted to post it here so that we all could have it.
On our '82 we have a NT-16L in the Saloon (Living Room) and it supplies Heat to that area as well as the Tankage Bay, a NT-16L under the Refrigerator and it supplies Heat to the Stairwell and the Tankage Bay, and then we have a NT-24M under the Street Side Closet and it supplies Heat to the Bedroom area.
I had a bad Fan Motor in the Saloon and the repair parts were Suburban #520949 in a kit that included the Fan Motor and Gaskets. I was able to take a Stainless Steel Brush (Toothbrush) and Clean my Burners and Orifice. When you look through the Sight Glass you should see a Blue Flame and not a Yellow Flame.
All of my heaters had Wasp (Mud Daubers) Nests on the Fan Blades and that area. I have installed Screens over them now to try and keep it from happening again.
Replacement Ignitor Circuit Board was from Dinosaur Electronics. This one is much better than the original ones since it tries to light the burner 3 times before going into lockout. I will have to post that part number after I get back down to the coach and get a look at my spare.
We decided to visit HWH in MO while we were nearby (working in Davenport, IA) since they built our slideout rooms and leveling system (or so we thought). We got there the night before in a torrential rain storm and the parking lot was very muddy the next morning but it had cleared up so all was well.
We had an appointment at 10am and a tech showed up to help us around then.
We were directed to a garage bay and pulled in so we were nice and dry to deploy the slides.
Another tech came in and looked at the front and bedroom slides while they were still in and informed us that the slide rooms and electronics were made by them but the rest of the system was built entirely by Newell including the air bladder seals and hydraulic systems. He basically said the same for the HWH leveling system. And then he sent us on our way with a no charge bill... So we have to take the coach to Newell for any servicing including slide seals.
Live and learn, at least Newell is still in business and we can take it there if no other option exists (they are always a long way from us)...
We had not used the AH in the bedroom since we got our coach a few months ago. With the really cold weather setting in I decided it was time to fix the rattling. I eventually figured out how to pull the carpet covered floors and sidewalls out of the storage closet in the hall and the angled closet in the bedroom where the TV is located. I really did not have to pull out the hall closet boards but I didn't figure that out until I had pulled everything out. The AH must have leaked before because there was old residue (dried AH juice) on the subflooring. I checked all the fittings and made sure they were tight and then started working on figuring out how to stop the rattles. After some trial and error it seems most of the rattling was due to a couple screws in the back of the AH were loose - the screws that hold it to the floor. The other rattle was coming from the front of the unit where it hits (literally) the front of the cabinet where the hot air exhaust comes out. I put some rubber from an old oven mit that was sacrificed on the AH alter... after some trial and error we were rattle free, on to the bathroom!
The bathroom was much easier to get to once I had discovered how to take the cabinet all apart and it just needed some rubber under the motor/fan unit. It is quiet now also. The only problem with all this quiet is that now I can tell the front units are rattling too, just not as much... maybe next weekend...
We also got a new sink faucet, instant hot water heater, Reverse Osmosis system (not going to use) and new garbage disposal (Insinkerator Elite - super quiet) so that the cabinet doesn't rattle when doing the dishes! I have to figure out how to get several filter canisters and a UV light under the sink now...
Howdy Gurus
I have a proposal on when and where for our 2016 Rally.
I propose we hold it at the www.RuidosoMotorcoachRanch.com Ruidoso, NM is a beautiful place.
I have been talking to the owners and it seems like a fantastic place. We have also had one of our gurus stay there and love it.
I am proposing the rally to be in late May. Starting Monday May 23rd running to Friday May 27th. that is the beginning of the Memorial day weekend, so if we do it, Darlene and I will likely stay longer than Friday.
They have basically the entire park available (around 28 spots) that week. It is a little more expensive than previous parks and they would offer us 15% off their normal rate (either daily or weekly). Weekly is $575 minus 15%.
I know it is not in the exact center of the Gurus location in north america, but it is in a beautiful area.
Nothing is set in stone. weather is typically in the low 70's day and 40's nite that week.
at this point i am just assessing interest, so it is not final yet.
please let me know if you think you would attend?
thanks
tom mccloud

Motor Homes of Texas has Newell 581 for sale for 189,000. Quite different inside, especially the shower. Walking though it I ask my wife, where is the shower. Finally found it behind two doors and the granite floor is air operated that slides open and reveals the shower floor.
