I didn’t want to highjack the other thread for Classics so...
Which bottle jack do you guys recommend please? I don’t want to order too tall of a jack and then not be able to get it under the jack points. Speaking of jack points where are they located on a 1998? I saw Tom’s coach has some nice flat jack points but do not see anything like that on mine.
Also what wood do you guys use for cribbing? I would think PINE would be too soft.
I also need to be able to work on DIRT or gravel so would I need better cribbing under the jacks or maybe a steel plate and how thick/large would you recommend please?

Need a new queen mattress for 2008! Has anyone tried a Saatva 1299$ Any suggestions HELP!

i have had our 02 now for over 7 years. our lives have been busy and full and always something to do
when we bought it, it had no bedroom. i had a large rear slide with a long sectional couch with a hideabed in it and an office desk across from it.
i took all of that out and with the help of a craftsman friend, made a newell style curved laminate bed with storage. only a cal king a big guy.
but the floor next to the bed was bare wood and no end tables and trim pieces. so over the last few months that has been the project. we recently remodeled our cabin and a friend who is in his 70's did the knotty hickory cabinets for it. incredible. so he agreed to make the end tables to my design. with curved laminate drawers and quartz tops. he said he had over 100 hours in them.
then my friend wade and i for the last week have been making trim pieces, covering them, trimming and trimming and adjusting and wiring and fitting and readjusting and fitting. a zillion trips in and out. i had to make a trip back to the cabinet guy to shorten a couple of drawers so to make the wires behind them fit.
all i have left now is to make the headboard and put some carpet on the plywood floor that is showing. the carpet goes on tomorrow.
also, chuck k was kind enough to give me his dinette out of his coach. i had no dinette, just a long desk. the desk came out, the dinette table went in. ron g, fabricated an acrylic leg for me and now we are set for now. we made some upholstered covers to go behind the chairs for now and will use fixed chairs for the time being.
i know it doesnt look like much work, but it was a ton work for us. a few pictures
and thanks to my buddies, newell owners and otherwise.

I have been chasing the air leak that causes the left rear suspension to go down after a day or two on our 86 . The valves seem to all be located in the engine compartment on the right side , forward bulkhead and I have not found any leak in that system. I suspect there may be a leaking air bag(s) or something in the plumbing going to the bags . I'm thinking the wheels need to come off to access the air bags and their plumbing . I have a 12 T bottle jack , but I think it would be easier if I had something with larger capacity . Harbor Freight has air/hydraulic jacks and 6 ton jack stands . I have noticed in posts that some Gurus use floor jacks , not clear on the capacity . Any input as to safe and effective procedure greatly appreciated .
Best wishes to everyone in the coming Spring !
Thanks ,
Chris

All,
Looking for suggestions for campgrounds in Austin, TX. Thanks in advance.

Newell Coach 1242

Good afternoon everyone.
I recently took over driving duties on a privately owned 2004 Newel 45' triple slide. This is my first experience with operating and maintaining an RV but I have really enjoyed it so far.
I am learning so much and am very happy to have found this community and will definitely be taking advantage of all the threads and comments. I was given the heads up as to a few problems and am also finding new ones.
Thank you all in advanced for any help I may be researching!
Chris

The problem is solved, this is more for entertainment and something to check.
The leveling system on 512 had exhibited an intermittent issue as long as we have owned it. The system would go into Level mode but the travel valves would still be energized. So as you tried to level the coach, the HCVs would try to move it back to travel height. This problem would come and go.
Last year it came but did not go. I sent the whole control box back to HWH, and they "fixed" it. The cost was reasonable, and it worked. For a while. On our 2018 tour, it went back to it's craziness, and finally would not even go into travel mode. I hot wired the travel solenoids to get us home.
In the fall of 18 I sent the box back for it's second trip to HWH. I installed it and it worked as it should. In mid January, it went back to it's crazy ways.
So, I sent it back a third time. It worked when it came back, and two weeks later, the demon has returned. There is a story in here somewhere about an engineer's definition of insanity.
If you know me, you can figure that during all of this I am poking prodding measuring and experimenting to see if I can fix it or at least understand the issue.
Before sending it a fourth time. I have the box and boards completely disassembled on the search for a poor or damaged solder joint. I find some iffy stuff but no smoking gun.
Today, while on the phone with HWH, checking all manner of things, cause they are scratching their heads too, I am measuring voltages on the main fuses into the board. The voltages check out on tops of the fuses, but on one of the fuses the base where the fuse plugs in doesn't read a voltage like it should.
Yep the fuse was good, but not making good contact with the fuse holder. You can see the char mark on the lower leg. I suspect it was removed and checked each time the box went back to HWH. The removal process restoring decent contact, until the Florida humidity had time to corrode the connection again. New fuses were installed with anti corrosive goop. All is well.
Something to look for when searching for electrical demons.

While I'm always in-awe of class-leading engineering, sometimes adapting to new opportunities makes a lot of sense.
I just discovered that Prevost premiered the launch of using two duplicate sets of electric fans to handle all engine cooling needs. https://www.prevostcar.com/news-and-medi...re-prevost
When you think about it, it totally make sense:
* I can't think of a late model car that doesn't have an electric powered fan
* Complete, variable control only runs them as hard as needed for much better efficiency.
* The HP gain at the wheels could be incredible (reported in the area of 75!)
* Service-ability must be MUCH easier
* Redundancy over single, fan-belt operated system is huge
* Clever use of reverse motors to clear snow (!) but even having them stop operation to clear debris on a regular interval to allow a plastic bag to no longer be suctioned to the grill
I'm sure this makes the electrical management a bit more challenging, but I would guess it's a strong net gain. Is anyone aware of Newell adopting this?
Just curious.
