i just got a new to us car with 3800 miles on it and i joined a forum dedicated to my new car.  i have made a few hands full of questions and comments and i have to say it has given me an appreciation for all of you.  some of the folks on that forum are snippy, nit picky and eager to point out faults in most anything i comment or question.

since i started our forum 6 years ago, we still have a kind, courteous and generous group of folks all willing to help out both newbies and experienced folks.

thanks again

tom

Wife and I are doing our homework for a multi-year RV lifestyle.  Selling most everything, house/contents, cars etc.  I'll be combing this, and other sites, to explore how things work, where to go, what kind of RV to buy (towable, 5th wheel, class A).  Our timeframe to take the plunge is late winter/spring 2019.  Planning to chase the seasons across the country and Canada.  Looking forward to this!

A little background on our family.  We're from Texas.  Grew up in tents, pop-ups, and trailers.  My wife hauled our kids all over the lower 48 pulling a variety of different very long trailers.  I was the lucky one and mostly flew in and out through the summers to catch the highlights of various areas.  We've hit all but two of the National Parks in the lower 48, and just loved the trout fishing, campfires, hiking, and being outdoors.  Although we've enjoyed all of our historic cities, we mostly prefer the parks.  Now for our dilemma...

We've vacillated back and forth about purchasing a coach.  We're heading to Miami to sit with Glenn to teach Carol about driving one, and make sure she's comfortable.  However, are there enough "camping" areas that we can actually enjoy in a 45' coach?  Although we appreciate some of the nicer places we've stayed, we're concerned about being limited to most of the places where you get a picnic table, a tree, and a concrete pad.

We're debating purchasing a pickup bed camper and tow a 4WD 1 ton for some day or two getaways.  So help us out here.  Given our love of hiking, kayaking, fishing, and campfires by the water, are we wiser to just get something that's smaller?

My bet is, we are not alone in this, and some of you here have figured out how to have both.  Enlighten us with how we do that!

Thanks!!

Forum: Engine and Transmission Monitoring Systems

Question for Newell owners. How does your PTO system work for your hydraulic system. Does your PTO run off the transmission or engine?  I know bluebird ran their system off the transmission and the majority were greased splines and not a wet system. They seem to have quite a few failures. Do any of you have the same system or have you had any problems. Seems like when bluebird had the Detroit S60 they went to this PTO system. I don’t know if Newell ever used this type of set up.
thanks

Looking for suggestions on what everyone is using and why you think it is the better one?  We need one to put in our 2012 Dodge truck that we tow with our RZR in the back of it.  All suggestions would be very helpful cause I just have no idea!

Thanks
Pam

I was visiting an RV dealer, yesterday, and I mentioned that a used Newell or Prevost was on my radar. He said that I should be concerned about electrical issues as "those are so complex, they can be a nightmare." Having spent a fair amount of time on this forum, I would conclude that there are NOT pervasive electrical issue with Newells, but I figured that I'd float the question out there for input. I understand that any coach can have a problem, but I felt that such a blanket statement was more of a sales scare tactic to steer me towards his product.
