Hello fellow Newell owners.  Andy and I bought a 1983 Newell in November 2015.  We have completed an interior upgrade replacing 43 year old blue shag carpet with cork floor tiles, recovered pull down shades, reupholstered couch and swivel rocker chairs (big project but love results), added solar to roof, fixed roof leaks and sorted out electrical.   Remaining projects are replacing air bags and making new drapes.   Our plan is to do a short shake down trip, then head South.

Attached are pics of the interior before and after, the exterior.

If anyone has any suggestions about replacing our air bags such, part number, supplier, or other suggestions, we would appreciate it.

Also, if anyone is willing to share a list of replacement part numbers/suppliers for the 83 that would be great.  We did not get much documentation with the coach.

Can't wait to see Newells on the road and hope to meet some of you soon.  I love this forum.  Everyone is so knowledgeable and helpful.

OK classic owners, I don't find much information in my files that shows the height of the classics. I suspect that the clearance height changed between the coaches with roof airs and the ones with basement airs but there are vents and dishes on the roof of classics that add to the clearance height.

Anyone out there that has measured theirs?

I show one 1988 that listed the height as 11'2" and a 1976 with roof airs that listed height as 11'10". I know that from the mid 2000's through at least 2015, the roof height was 12'8"-12'10" with clearance height (top of air conditioners) of  13'3". The 2017 Newells are listed as 13'1" to the top of the air conditioners.

Any additional information would be appreciated.

Ray Wiggins, Coach 743 '05 owned since August '14.  My fourth and best RV by far.  Over the two years I have enjoyed 743, getting the many service issues taken care of and the visit to the factory in January was money well spent.  I began, as many others have, getting a coach that had been service neglected and somewhat original in electronics.  I first took care to put the engine, transmission, genset, aquahot, chassis items (shocks, hubs, brakes) secured and safe.  Since I paid wholesale for the coach I knew I needed to sink some money there and not be sitting on the side of the road.  Second year was spent upgrading electronics, replacing clouded windows, new batteries, and a fresh set of tires.  Again no sticker shock items.  Beginning this year I started at the factory in January.  A complete check out by the Pros was best money I ever spent.  I was fortunate to find a local shop that can handle the heavier coaches (Prevost, Newell and others) near my Augusta, Ga home so most everything that I have needed has been addressed.  Our biggest challenge so far has been the air leaks.  We have replaced all seals on all four slides and will start soon searching for more leaks.  These bladders only last so long.  The majority of my repairs have been items that over time just need attention.  I will probably keep 743 for a while until I feel the maintenance costs will be getting out of hand.  With 93k miles it is just getting broken in.  I look forward to reading others in this forum and from time to time I hope to contribute based on my happy 2+ years in my Newell.

Ray

We were headed back from Sandusky , Ohio Sunday ON THE Ohio Turnpike. At around 2:00 pm near the I-75 intersection I saw a late model Newell eastbound. It was hard to see since there was a lot of traffic but I think it was black and brown/beige.
