Hi gurus,

Just finished 3226 miles in our classic 1972 and she ran beautifully!  Sadly it looks like I have a leaky head gasket in my Detroit 8.2 since I'm getting tiny bubbles in my coolant.  My brother in law is a diesel mechanic and suggests that if I want piece of mind I swap engines.  He suggests a Cummins 6bt 5.9L engine.  This seems a little small to me since I have an 8.2L in there right now but space is a problem too.  Originally it had a Ford 391 gasser.

Anyone with any thoughts for engine/transmission combos.  Our 1972 is 32 feet long and weighs about 20,000 lbs. and we tow a 1981 Honda Accord which weighs maybe 3500 with the dolly.

It's either this or new head gaskets.

Thanks!

Hi Gurus!

Here I sit at camp Newell awaiting my HWH pad replacement, and salon slide seal renewal.
Good trip from Knoxville, TN except now I am dripping potable water on Newell's driveway.  They won't notice with all the condensate I am adding too.

Got out the flexible camera probe and can see the water is leaking at the common ( lowest ) sensor for level indication.  There won't be much water left when it stops at that location.

So, anyone plowed this ground before me?  The sensors are somehow through the side of the plastic tank.  There is a nut to hold on the sensor wire, and then another nut.  I have never attempted to remove a sensor and don't even know if it is possible.

I imagine bonding anything to stop the leak on the outside of the tank is going to be a challenge to stick to the plastic.

All thoughts appreciated.

Thanks,    Russ

LWas getting on the interstate about 1/2 mile from the house when I heard bang crash ..the drive train let go.. Was on the on ramp at approximately 5 mph.. U joint and yoke that connects to tranny let go dropped drive shaft.. At that speed didn't do any additional damage. Unhooked stacker drug it back home. Waiting on a tow truck to tow me. Called blue sky insurance asked where I needed towed to I said about 300 yards to the ken worth diesel shop.  Guy said no problem your tow insurance is good for 1500$. Here is the good part. I had an appointment at Newell Monday morni g already to get the u joints and other stuff looked at..  Gave the insurance company Newells address said I really rather be towed there. Guy just called me back said that is 152 miles and would be covered fully under your towing coverage.. Tow truck on the way from Joplin right now to van Buren ark to get me.. Don't even have to burn the fuel to get Newell.. Lol

Love Blue Sky..

Beside myself and don't know what the problem could be. I keep replacing everything and it works fine for awhile and then the compressor stops working or the  head pressure relief valve had to be  twice replaced or the check valve three times replaced. no leaks , all new hoses and fittings and the latest compressor was a 1 hp replacing the 1/2 thinking it was underpowered...

Any ideas ?? Anyone have this many bugs in the air system like this ?

We were heading East in a couple of days , but now ??

Over the last year I have conducted two tests that I felt would take at least a year to evaluate results. Hopefully the results will help others in the maintenance of their coach.

The first was I have not washed my coach with soap, water & a brush for over a year.  I have used microfiber cloths and Wash & Wax All exclusively.  I have not seen any degrading of the painted surface.  No scratching of any kind.  The positives I have found is washing the coach can be done in my shop in any weather.  I don't have to do the whole coach at one time and I no longer deal with water spotting.  I wax my coach once a year and have found that it polishes & waxes easier now than before.  This is not an advertisement for Wash & Wax All as I have received nothing from the company.  I chose it based on availability and price.  There are other products that may be similar and give similar results.

The second test was with some delamination of the basement skins.  I caught the delamination early on four different doors.  The delamination areas ranged from 3 inches to about 12 inches.  Each of the delamination areas started at the door frame corners.  I tested several products using scrap aluminum of similar qualities.  After testing I chose to use in a real life test two products.  The first was Loctite epoxy instant mix.  It is a clear epoxy that is mixed in a mixing tip as it is being dispensed.  I worked the epoxy behind the aluminum frame where it was delaminating and then clamped the skin to the frame.  After letting it dry I unclamped and all of the delaminated areas were now solidly attached.  I chose to reenforce the corners by adding a bead to the corners of the door frame.  After doing a couple of doors I felt the epoxy was not leaving the bead as I wanted as it tended to run.  I left it to see if it would stand up to use though.  I decided for putting a bead to reenforce the corners on the rest of the doors to use Sikaflex 252.  The Sikaflex was easier to apply in a larger bead that did not run like the epoxy.  After a full year I have not had a single door that I fixed begin delaminating again.  All frames have stayed tight with the frames.  Both the epoxy beads and the Sikaflex beads remain intact.  The epoxy beads are clear.  The Sikaflex 252 is black.  Again this is not an advertisement for Loctite epoxy instant mix or Sikaflex 252 as I received nothing from either company.  These products were chosen based on my testing of their bonding qualities, availability & price.

I have found a toggle switch, solenoid and green light in the HWH compartment under the driver.  Can someone identify what this is for?  It is located just inside the door on the front panel.  I tried to attach a photo but was unable to do so.
