I have long been concerned about the short cycling of the front unit on our coach. The unit would run for some period, then turn off. But if the sun were shining on the front of the coach or the passenger side, it would come back on in as short as 30 seconds after shutting off.

This is very very hard on the compressor since there is not a pressure bleed mechanism in the unit.

I isolated the problem to the thermostat. The temp actually changes that quickly as soon as the unit stops. The tstat SHOULD have a delay on restart built in, but it doesn’t. The Coleman Mach replacement does not have a delay built in.

I tried insulating the tstat, insulating the tstat temp sensor, leaving the fans on all the time. Nothing I tried really helped. If this were a 24VAC circuit then delay on restart timers are plentiful, but nothing I could find for 12VDC. I cobbled up an adjustable timer with 4 channel relays, but it did not have the program features I wanted, but it worked better than nothing.

Then I stumbled onto this little 12V timer. https://timers.shop/Multi-Functional-3V-..._p_77.html. There are versions that have internal 10 amp relays also.

Perfect ! It takes 4 of them, and you have to program it. You can buy the computer adaptor to program, or spend a little more for the WI-FI programmable version. This device is inserted between the thermostat and the basement unit.

I used Program 36. The 36 program will not delay the first time the unit comes on, but will delay on subsequent restarts. I used 5 minutes as the delay time. EDIT: If you do this, let me know, and I will send the CONFIG file with the program and other setpoints to save you time.

It is FAR easier to program than the Chinese derived instructions you get with the typical relay board. This timer is made in USA and instructions and videos were done by native English speakers.

I wired it to enable one more feature. I wired an on off switch to the timers. That way, I can turn off the AC units without turning off the Tstat. The Tstat retains it’s setpoints. I turn off the AC to shut down the generator. Rhonda turns the switch back on when she sees the shore power light. It’s minor improvement but it is sweet when you do as many campgrounds per year as we do. The ACs come back on immediately at the setpoint we left in the Tstat.

I post this because this is an incredibly versatile timer relay for 12VDC use. We have a number of electronic gurus on here that “improve” 12V features on the coach.

I have no interest in this outfit but it is a really neat product. For the electronics guys it has two built in features that make it way easier than building your own. One, it has built in pull down and pull up resistors to make the trigger inputs behave consistently. Two, it has a built in diode to prevent the circuit you are turning on from spiking the voltage when the circuit turns off. This is a real problem in controlling the basement unit since the tstat is turning relays on the circuit board on and off.

Yeah I know, install mini splits and this problem goes away. I am not ready to go down that path yet.

Sorry all,

Oracle (our server provider) did some updates that inadvertently maxed out our CPU and RAM causing a sporadic outage over the last day or two.

Then... I attempted to update our country blocks and made it block everyone.  Everything should be fixed now.  We currently allow connections from North America, Portugal, and France.  Countries are being added as requested, but everything else is blocked to fight fake accounts.

Been working through the rear of our coach drooping to the left and settling down.  Changed airbags, changed height control valves, crawled around under the coach with soap solution and rebuilt the six packs with Tom's rebuild kits.  Each bit of work had appreciable incremental improvements.

The coach still settles down over a period of three or four days.....at least it is even as it settles.

Now to the next item.  Found a small (external) air leak on the rear six pack top check valve (see picture).  Aired the system down and carefully removed the external brass cap (spring loaded) to investigate the possible repair.  The sealing o-ring under the brass cap is not really rubber.   Its a hard nylon type seal around the brass cap and a trapped o-ring on the sring loaded plunger....would be difficult to replace if you had new seals. Spent some time on the HWH web site looking for some idea on the six pack check valve availability.  could not find our six pack parts break down till I back doored the RAP1940 solenoid search and came up with a Newmar HWH Six Pack manifold not quite the same but close in regards to the functionality.  The parts breakdown has the HWH part number for the check valve RAP6553.  I have ordered a pair of check valves from Northwest RV supply for $19.95 per pair.  Not sure of the internal dynamics of the check valve function but sure couldn't hurt to replace them given the age and will do a follow-up.

I’ve read some other post on this but haven’t found one with my same symptoms.
My diesel will fire and build up to 185 and shutoff. Once temp gets down to 160 it will never kick back on. If you turn the aqua hot button on and off it will start back up and build to shutoff them. When it gets to 160 the control board shows the diesel burner is on.
So far I’ve replaced the control thermostat and diesel burner control and still having the same issue. Any suggestions on what to look at next? Thanks

I recently purchased a 1968 Consolidated M123A1C tank transporter with the Cummins V903 engine.  You folks seem to have some good information about the type.  Cheers! Mike

So I have been chatting with and helping a Wanderlodge owner in France, yes the country France. He has a 1985 PT Wanderlodge that he has been renovating and I have been helping him get parts so that he can keep it maintained.
So the other day he contacted me and said that it was funny that I purchased a Newell, because he is also looking at a Newell. Yes a Newell in France. It is a 1991 Newell executive bus, so it does not have a bedroom and not sure if it has a shower. I will post some pictures of both his Wanderlodge and the Newell that he is looking to purchase.

Does anyone know the part number for the rubberized handle that is mounted on the right hand door jamb as you step into coach?

EDIT; Here is a picture of my handle.  I have looked in the usual places and cannot find one even close to being able to work.  I ordered a Rec Pro handle and the base plate is too wide to fit in the door jamb area.  So, any ideas?

I rebuilt both "six packs" with Tom's kits.  Over the years since owning the coach had the front six pack acting weird on different occasions.  Nothing that was consistent just intermittently wonky.   Verifying that I did not hook something up wrong I came across I had my wife operate the HWH control panel will checking to see if the solenoids were activating.  Referring to the drawing (attached) of the six pack that I have annotated.  The driver"s raise/lower solenoid never operated in the conditions I outlined in my notes.

Thinking this might be a normal condition I asked another owner and he assured me that it was not.  Did some troubleshooting by checking fuses in the HWH control box and connections inside the box.  Further digging, found the "Driver's" side raise solenoid +12vdc pin pushed back in the Delphi Weather Pack connector.  I had not disturbed the connectors when rebuilding the six pack (also had not disturbed all the other connectors as well). Looks like the original solenoid and it's been that way for a long time.  Also, found two other weather pack connectors not seated very well.  Verified the solenoid worked by applying 12v to the solenoid.  Verified 12v coming out of the HWH computer.  Confirmed operational once all hooked back up.....that one is good.  Drivers side lower Solenoid.  Checked all fuses and connections then verified the solenoid worked by applying 12v to the solenoid....that worked properly.  Checked for 12v coming out of the computer and that was good to go.  applied 12v to the solenoid and that was good as well.  Cleaned connector and verified operation....so that is now working.  This was a good exercise on understanding how the system is supposed to work.....I have been having weird things happening, that did not make sense, over the last five years, that are explainable now.

This was a good exercise on HWH leveling system operation that was fun to figure out.
