We had new battery trays built 2 years ago, and have had no issues with them at all….once unlocked in front, they have just nicely pulled out. Today…not so.  The right side of each tray seems to try to move, the left side won’t budge.  Any ideas?  My husband was just about to re-fill with distilled water, can’t do so without the trays coming out!  HELP?  We have tried rust melt to see if that’s an issues, still nothing ….  Appreciate any ideas!

We changed out our toilet to a macerator toilet last winter and love it no more air leaks or stuck valves so since all the waste is macerated might as well pump it though a 1" flat hose, flush it with fresh water and stow the 1" line and quick connect in the bay with the jacks and cribbing.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C716...=UTF8&th=1

I took off the old air operated 3" valve and put a 12V macerator pump in its place to move the black water through the flat line with quick connects, also while I had the panel off I repaired the tank level board and got the gauges to work. Corrosion had eaten the printed circuits off the board so I soldered small wires to make the connection, would have been easier to buy a new board but I like the challenge and doubt they make them anymore.

Hello this is Willie and Rachel Moore we recently purchased Coach #465 a 1997 double slide. The coach currently has 173,000 miles so she was no hanger queen. A little background on me after high school I went right into the US Navy and worked on A-7E Coarsair ejection seats and air conditioning and pressurization. After discharge from the Navy I went to college year while working and UPS and I have been employed at UPS for 33 years.I grew up tent camping to a fold down to a slide in truck camper with my family and I still own the 1977 Chevy 3/4 ton camper special truck my Dad bought when it was about a year old it’s all original and very solid o my driven two winters. In the early 2000’s I was had an obsession with power boats and did a fair amount of maintenance on those. Around 2010 my wife and I had a 26’ travel trailer for a few years. In 2021 I bought a year old coachmen class C which we sold this past July we used it quite a bit and actually put 6,500 miles on it last summer. I always wanted a diesel pusher and have followed many FB groups the past few years. I had called the previous owner of our Newell who is a retired former co worker of mine to ask questions about an American Eagle I saw for sale. While talking he mentioned that he’d be selling the Newell that they owned since 2001. I thought about that a month and decided to look at it and the rest is history. I told my wife this is like going from a Cessna 152 to a Citation x! So far we absolutely love it and still kind of can’t believe we have a Newell. A couple of mechanics from our  truck shop crawled  under it and said that it’s one of the cleanest engines they’ve seen. They did point out a couple thing I need to address tag bushings and a tag slack adjuster other than that said it’s solid and clean. So I will be on here learning a lot.

So when I inspected #490 when I picked it up I noticed that the differential was wet and it appeared to be coming from the pinion. So while I had the wheels off to get the tires put on, I did some inspection of the driveline components and greasing of course too while I was under there.
I was hoping the pinion seal leak was just from sitting and getting dried out, but I don't think I have that good of luck.
So while I had the bus properly supported I released the parking brakes and then spun one of the drive hubs and did not like what I heard. To me it seems to have quite a bit of lash in the rear diff gears. I was discussing this issue with my parts buddy and he said he would suspect the pinion bearing is worn, which would also explain the pinion seal leak. So at some point I am going to be pulling the carrier and sending it off for a rebuild.

I did do some cursory searches on differentials on here but did not see a whole lot come up in the searches of others having issues.
Any one else had to have their diff fixed, just curious if its a common problem or something that just happened on mine. There is always a possibility with the diff lock that someone forgot and left it on, that would be hard on the pinion. I have not even tried turning the diff lock on, does it give an audible warning when its on? I guess if it does have an audible warning then my theory it was left on is a little more far fetched.

In my searching I did find parts and maintenance manuals for the Rockwell 160 axles:

I put this in the things to consider column to potentially aid a buyer in assessing the cost of replacing the airbags on a coach.

I was lurking on the Wanderlodge forum, reading a similar post. A well known suspension shop in the Pacific Northwest had quoted a Wanderlodge member 10k to replace the airbags. That quote included parts and labor. I think the gentlemen got it done using an independent tech for a total of 6800.

The cost of airbags, like tires, has almost doubled. And for those who have changed their own, the labor is intense, dirty, and challenging.

I am kind of thinking on 8 airbag coach, the rears would be in the neighborhood of 400 each, and the two fronts about 600 each. Obviously more if sourced from the mothership. So the minimum parts would be just under 4k. Based on my own ineptness in doing the work several times, about 3 or 4 hrs per air bag. Using 3 hrs per bag at shop rate of 150 results in labor of about 4800 in labor, so the 10k quote was not out of the question.

I am curious what others experience would say about my estimates.

I am trying to get a 2023 cost for some of the major maintenance items that a new owner may face in taking over a used coach.

I also would like to hear about any recent radiator replacement costs.

My purpose is to give a potential buyer a tool in helping assess the price of a used coach, and to anticipate what maintenance costs may be incurred if these items are not reasonably fresh:

For example:
Slide seals
Radiator
Brakes
Tires
Airbags
AirCon Options and Costs

Would love to hear your thoughts on other items that should be on this list.

The radio won't power up with ignition switch on, will power up on  shore power when first plugged in, then will shut off and maybe after awhile will come back on and off. I'm trying to figure out what drives the voltage to the radio 12/120v  so I can make sure it works every time.

Solder Sleeves, do you use them?  I have not used solder sleeves although I know many do.  I do not trust the connection and cannot understand how you have any idea if the solder really joins with all of the wire strands?  I have soldered for many decades and have seen the good, bad and ugly with flux, cleanliness, wire types etc..  My recent experience seems to validate my opinion.
