On my last trip up I-5 two of my roof air conditioners failed.  Newell said that they were not serviceable and would therefore need to be replaced.  After careful inspection I determined that the tubing connection to the evaporator cracked at the connection point.  The problem is that the compressor is mounted on shock absorbers and the evaporator is attached to the frame and no motion is allowed for.  The fix is relatively simple but requires a knowledgeable A/C service tech to perform.  Order the shortest flexible line that Grangers offers (I think it is about 8" long), order a service valve (schrader valve) for the low pressure side, cut out a section of the hard copper tubing and install the flexible section between the compressor and the evaporator, install the service valve in the low pressure line.  Recharge the system and you are good to go.

While I was at it, I had the technician make that modification to all 4 A/C units.  Total cost to modify all 4 was under $1000.  New units are around $2000 each plus shipping and installation.

When we purchased our coach it was noted that both slides had problems but the front slide was worse and took first priority now we have pretty much gone through everything that was priority we started on the rear slide, we followed the instructions here about removing the retract switch and bolt then moved the slide a couple inches more into the rear we did this with no problem and thanks for that information. Our rear seal had a slight air leak from where they cut and crimped the ends and to our amazement and happiness it doesn't need replacement, they failed to put sealant on the ends and didn't tighten the allen head screw very tight so we saved $1600+. The problem was water intrusion into the electrical bay where the cable is stored as water runs between the skin of the coach and by the frame then back to the hole in the top of the electrical bay. Replacing all the rivets around the outside of the slide really helped but now I see that the sealant or sticky tape over the years have left a gap and an easy way for water to get in and it must be resealed. We pulled the seal from the guide and will removed the lower part of the guide to clean the rust off then re-glue the guide back to the bottom part. I am not fond of Newells thought pattern on seals and where the water is to go when it rains but it is what it is.

Before I drive over to Newell to purchase that glue used to adhere the seal to the track does anyone know what the name of that stuff is? I might be able to save a 100 mile round trip.

Does anyone know what this part number is? I need to knock mine with a mallet to get it to flash the rear lights. Front flasher works and sends signal to rear. I am thinking the four in the rear are all the same part numbers. Would like to replace them all.

My exterior door skin has peeled from the inner metal base. I bought the coach like this. I made a repair along the top which seems as if the expanded foam pushed the door shell apart from initial construction. This required me to use a long 12 tooth sawzall blade to cut some of the foam out. I applied double sided 3M tape and clamped the door skin. After about an hour I didn't feel comfortable leaving just the tape to hold the skin as it still had resistance from the spray foam. I installed a few rivets along the top. Now it's good and water tight. Of course I noticed the side of the door skin has peeled. Not sure if I should rivet it or if there is a decent adhesive I could put in there and clamp it. Anyone go through this? I have replaced a bunch of double sided tape on the upper side mouldings where the body skin is riveted at the center. Over the summer, the sun would bake and cool the metals which would lead to the screws coming loose and the metal trim flopping downward. I am trying to get as much done in time for the paint work since I am sure these guys won't do such repairs.

Fixin to head out on the road for the maiden shakedown voyage. I have read a few thing about the dump valve , tank flush and fill.  please I want to make sure I have this system correct.

So there is only 1 black/grey tank and it mixes both together. So there is a main termination valve I see but behind that there is another valve, why is that valve there. Is the tank seperated into 2 sides ??  I have shot a pic to try and explain.

on the aqua hot bay there is another dump valve. I presume you can dump the tank from either side as well as fill the fresh water from either side ( am I correct on this)

also on the aquahot bay there is a fill valve at the top of the tank near the back, it has a manual shutoff valve anso there is a 3/4" hose that runs from that valve down to bottom of the tank. Is this the tank flushout area ?

herer are a few pics of the bay areas.

Sorry for the long post...  I'll try to be concise.  We were at HWH to get hydraulic manifold replaced.  When getting ready to leave coach raised to ride height but while driving the air supply would slowly drop to about 70 psi and stay there.  Pulled over and coach was down in the rear... fortunately there was no dragging or tire rubbing.  I had to pump the brakes while stopped to drop pressure to 40-50 psi before it would start to build pressure. Put it on fast idle and with added throttle up to 1600 rpm the air supply would raise to 115 or so psi and coach would be back to ride height.  Called Newell and spoke to Jim Raymond who thought it was the air regulator or governor.  Nursed it to Altoona Iowa and it is now at a Detroit diesel shop to be looked at tomorrow.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

So I have just recently replaced all the airbags on coach 480.  Tag bags can be found in the aftermarket and the fronts as well but very limited supply.  Drive bag is firestone part # w01-358-9447 is obsolete as well as the goodyear crossover bag. I looked for 3 weeks and called everywhere. Even Rob at Dayton air systems couldnt find them. So I had to order the drives from newell. Cambri told me there is a limited supply of the drive bags and newell has them. they have sourced out having a company custom make the drive bags for them and when they get them the price is going to increase signifcantly. Currently the bags are 650.00 each, which is way overpriced but what can ya do. So if ya think your needing those drive bags, you might want to reach out and get them before they cost a ton more.
