I’m going to be replacing the old Freedom soon since the remote panel works sporadically and says my engine batteries are almost dead when I know they are not (tested them to be sure).  If I were going to ‘one day’ convert to Lithium batteries and solar panels should I go with something like a Victron system?
I am planning to use my existing AGMs and program the inverter for them - would this be a good idea or am I missing something?
What should I use to charge my coach/engine batteries?

This is a system I’m considering (among other options):
Victron Energy MultiPlus-II 12/3000/125-50 @X120V
Victron VE.Bus Smart Dongle
Victron Cerbo GX
Victron BMV-712 Battery Monitor (OR Victron Energy GX Touch 50)
Victron Interface MK3-USB (VE bus to USB)

Any help or comments is highly appreciated!
I don’t want to have to throw out anything later because I missed something!

Hello fellow Newell friends with Allisons.

Upon request, I created this short video to walk through the Cold Check, Shift Panel Fluid Level Check, and Diagnostics on the Allison transmissions.

I hope it's useful for you.  Please let me know if you have other topics you'd like covered.

Safe Travels!

As many of you know, I have been repairing my Aquahot for a while now. All is working (with the exception of the 120v element that will have to wait until next spring!) and the system is doing it's job quite well.

The AH and Newell manuals talk about the electric system working fine down to a certain cold temperature at which time we should turn on the diesel burner for supplemental BTUs. That's fine...

Why wouldn't the system be setup to do that unattended. So, let's say you are in a very cold climate and you leave the coach alone to do some errands or sightseeing or are gone for an extended amount of time. You leave the Electric Aquahot system running, but it gets cold enough to need the Diesel side. No one is there to activate it. So bad tings could happen.

What would it take, to sense the lack of temp in the boiler (with the electric on) and trigger the diesel switch to on until it's OK. Could avert a disaster!

I'm looking into it...of course, it may not be needed. The electric side may keep things warm enough to prevent freezing in the bays and pipes but not warm enough to be comfortable.

Just musings....

Is the paint peeling/blistering a big deal on our coaches?  I have a couple spots that look like the picture where the paint is peeling up in a little circle - I have not been brave enough to peel it back and look under it but have been told by an ‘aluminum expert’ that is may indicate an issue that needs to be CUT out… what say ye?

I'm not partial to one or another but rather looking to see which one would work best on a tablet. I wanted to install a small tablet somewhere to monitor engine operating stats when underway. That said, I do not want to have a laptop set up on the console. What's the popular consensus on which system would work for my needs with a small 8-10" tablet? Thanks guys!

My AH system is running fine and heating all zones but the only register I am finding in the front (living room) is under the kitchen cabinets on the passenger side.  Is there another register up front near or in the dash?

So I noticed with the advent of col weather that my RED gauge needle is dropping down to 60  and the compressor turns on to refill...

What systems affect the red line??

Thanks!

Last winter in Colorado Springs, we had freshwater pipes freeze in the driver's side bay. Seemed like the frozen area was in the pex beyond the valve manifolds. Luckily we didn't have any bursts or leaks after thawing out.

At the time, the front of the electric cube heater down there was not warm, so I figured it was the heater or the thermostat that sits on that side. I threw an electric heater down there above the water tank to make it through the rest of the winter.

Well, winter is upon us again and figured I'd work on a permanent solution.

But I ran across a bit of a surprise today.

The driver's side 120V cube heater appears to be controlled by the passenger side thermostat. And the aquahot bay heat exchanger and fan appears to be controlled by the little thermostat on the driver's side with the copper capillary tube. Exactly the opposite of what I expected.

Does anybody know why Newell would have done this?

The passenger side is usually fairly warm just from having the aquahot over there. I suspect that the thermostat on that side rarely trips to turn on the 120V heater. I'm considering just moving the 120V thermostat over to the driver's side bay so that the 120V heater is controlled based on local (to the heater) temperatures, but want to make sure I'm not shooting myself in the foot somehow by doing so.
