When is a Newell considered a “classic”?  Model year or age?

We have placed a retainer on a 1999 Newell #521 in Sun Valley, CA, and were looking for someone that could do an inspection on the coach for us.  If there is someone that could help with that or if you know  of someone that might be able to help, please let me know.  Although we have owned Motorhomes for over 35 years, this is our first Newell.

I just finished replacing the front shocks, a couple air bags and brake shoes on the front of my classic. The shocks were still the factory originals, spray foam covered and all, Gabriel S2607B. Gabriel lists 85702 as a standard replacement. I was looking for something a little better. I believe the Koni replacement should have been 90-2434, but I got conflicting information about that model still being in production. I found Gabriel offered an adjustable gas shock SLX 89412 that seemed to be correct. In comparing the shocks these are the specifications I found.

İmage

The Gabriel is adjustable and the rebound is supposed to be the firm setting. I installed them at the extra firm setting. First 400 miles have been great, but those factory originals were pretty tired anyway. They did settle the front down and I think a pair on the back would really help too.

I wanted to add a sliding tray to one of my storage trays for my new grill. I started looking on line and found out they were pretty expensive,  so I decided to make my own. I bought a set of 36" Austin Hardware (500 lb) drawer slides on facebook market place for 50.00 awesome price) and enlisted the help of a friend.
We started pulling together some scrap steel he had laying around. We started off with some 3" x 1/4' angle iron, which was probably overkill but it is what was available and free. We welded some cross members to make sure we stayed square and welded the drawer slides to the angle iron. We then welded up a base frame using 1 1/4" x 1/8" angle iron (44" to tal length), so it actually hangs over the back side of the drawer sides but it will give me more room to get things closer when the slide is pulled all the way out. taped off the slides and painted all the metal and then added a 3/4" sheet of plywood, (which I had already carpeted) to the base frame. Lastly I added some saddles to keep the grill from sliding around . I have included pictures of most of the steps. It works great and looks pretty good too.

Anyone have a Xantrex Link 2000 remote panel? I have the basic one installed in the coach at the moment and would like to be able to get a bit more detail than what it offers and still fit in the same cutout as the Basic one.

Also, I have no idea what the difference between the 2000 and 2000R is.

I will be replacing the entire system with a pure sine wave version when I do my solar install, but until then...

Anyone?

Thank you!

While I'm now a Newell owner, I still love my 1/2 scale (as compared to a Newell!) 23'8" Class A Aero Cruiser

Read all about me and my trials and tribulations updating, modifying and traveling in my "escape" vehicle.

It can go places the Newell just cannot. I look forward to doing up my Newell as a self sufficient off grid traveling machine. Just going to go about it a bit differently!

1994 Newell coach, model 2000, formerly owned by Nascar driver Jeff Bodine.  I am the third owner and purchased it in 2002.  It currently has about 140,000 miles on it.  It is equipped with a 17.5 KW generator with approximately 7200hrs.  The engine is a 500 HP Detroit diesel that runs like a top.  I recently added 3 new Dometic roof AC's, and 8 new AGM batteries plus new front wheel bearings and brakes.  I had it repainted in 2006 and it has always been garage kept.  It features Corian counter tops, recent SxS Kenmore refrigerater and freezer, 2 flat screen tv's, dome satellite, queen size bed, 2 basement storage compartments (one with a joey), trash compacter, marine hot water heater, 3 electric heaters, 2 propane heaters, gas cooktop, Sharp microwave/conv oven, leather upholstery (no tears).  It does not have slides as it was manufactured pre-slide era.  Price is $78000.  Motorhome is located in Summerdale, Al.  Cell # 251-979-9900 and e-mail is [email protected].  Photos on request.
